San Jose, Costa Rica recommendations

My girlfriend and I will be there for her work for about 9 weeks over the summer. Based in San Jose for the majority and Nosara for a stint.

I'm sure many members have been to San Jose, but then on to a resort destination. Looking for things to do from anyone with experience in the city.
Restaurants, neighborhoods, sporting events, museums or shows.

I'm not much help but I was there in January. Grecia was a nice area close to San Jose and Jaco on the coast was a lot like Hawaii weather wise. I spent no time in San Jose.

I appreciate the response. I'll look into Grecia.

Hopefully more folks chime in with their experience.

My experience was San Jose was a rather large dirty city but they have attractions there as well.

On an interesting note, everyone there is mellow and very nice but they drive like fiends. I got pulled over for speeding and the cop asked for a $200 bribe instead of a $600 ticket. I got pulled over 20 minutes later for passing on a solid line but just given a warning. The main highway is very slow and very congested with trucks.

Tamarindo beach area is pretty hot and dry temperature-wise. Those were my 3 main places Jaco (pronounced Haco) not to far from San Jose but on the coast, Grecia nice small town in the mountains near San Jose and Tamarindo way up near the top Pacific corner.

Not much going on in San Jose. Wonderful country though. I like the mountain areas.

Thanks to you both, I'll check out the places that have been mentioned. I'm excited for a little change of scenery and some temporary emersion in another culture.

Costa Rica was great when I went. We stayed at the Four Seasons on Papagayo Peninsula. Amazing trip.

I was surprised how cold I was in the cloud forests. I had no coat and froze until a kind British tourist lent me a sweater. The food was interesting. Beans rice and bananas 3 times a day, I was happy as I like that sort of food but many people find it bland. Did have some good fish. I was surprised at how expensive most things were, was surprised too at what a high standard of living the people there enjoy. If my wife would, I would move there right away.
