Rolex Service Question

Hey Everyone! A couple years ago my father passed this Vintage Blue Dial Rolex Datejust to me and it’s the most important possession I own. I’ve been thinking about getting it serviced by Rolex but have heard that Rolex will replace the acrylic crystal with a sapphire which I do not want done. Is that true? Also, around how much would a full service cost and has anyone had experience with NYC Rolex Service Center? Thanks!

No Way !
Acrylic crystal with a sapphire does not fit anyway.

I would "ask" (NO POLISHING !!!) not to polish, it looks beautiful !

Wear him in honor.

Rolex may recommend a change of crystal, but it will still be the acrylic type.

There are independent watch makers that could just service the movement, replace the gaskets, and leave the rest of the watch untouched. Some of them post on this forum. There is no need to send it to an RSC. And if you use an independent you can control exactly what is done to the watch.

Rikki at Time Care Inc in FL is one of them.

If it runs good, don't service it

Rolex would never ever replace the plexi for a sapphire.

A new plexi is recommended for water resistance as the crystal is its own gasket, old plexi gets brittle thus you'll risk water damage.

You can opt for no polishing though, RSC will honour that request if you state it very clearly.

Beautiful DJ! Looks in great condition. If it runs well, I'm on board too with not having it serviced at this point. However, if you do need service, I would have the movement done and nothing else. Definitely no on the polishing imo, especially since your watch looks in great shape.

Beautiful DJ. My first Rolex was same case, same machined bezel, same acrylic crystal, same jubilee bracelet. Mine was white roman dial. Loved that watch.

I recently took my late fathers DJ to RSC UK, they wanted to replace crystal, crown for the same parts which I was happy with but they also wanted to replace the bracelet which I wasn't so it will be going to an independent now.

Seek out a recommended independent if you don't want stuff replacing.

Acrylic crystals are always replaced with Acrylic as part of RSC service.

I wouldn't worry much at the Acrylic as they would give you the same type as others have mentioned.
if the watch runs well, why are you wanting to service it ?

I would, too ,look for a certified Rolex independent guy/gal - your watch is beautiful !!
