Bundle purchase for sports model in Bangkok

Well, I am in Bangkok for a short business trip this week and managed to find some time to visit one of the prominent ADs in the town, PMT The Hour Glass, yesterday.

Enquired about the sports model and as usual the answer is "no stock". But when I asked further on what conditions are required to buy one, the sales agent surprisingly revealed to me the amounts required for bundle purchase to get the different sports model.

I will start with the the most expensive ones and the bundle amount does not include the specified watch:
For 116500LN (either white/black dial), you need to purchase other watches (can be both Rolex or Tudor) worth THB 1.5m (or US$45.7k)

126710BLRO - THB 1m (US$30.5k)

126710CHNR - THB 500k (US$15.2k)

116610LV - THB 400k (US$12.2k)

116610LN - THB 150k (US$4.6k)

In terms of inventory, I saw a few SS Yachtmaster and two-tone Sub being displayed in the various ADs though. And one western guy bought a Daytona Gold when I visited the Rolex AD at Central Chidlom.

I will visit a few more ADs this morning at Siam Paragon and Centralworld, followed by the one at Suvarnabhumi Airport before I leave BKK.

Very common around here. I dealt with these ADs in the past. The buddle purchase keeps going crazy.

I was in Bangkok for most of last year and lived by several of the ADs. Same story, though they refused to write it down for me. You could also simply pay a premium for the watch, as opposed to bundling it.

FWIW, at least this AD is being transparent about what it'll take to buy the coveted SS models vs. being stuck on a unknown list for a year or more.

I’m confused. You have to pay 30k at an AD for a 9k watch (gmt)when gray price is closer to 20k? And why is the 116610ln only 4.6k? Odd.

Paying 20+ thousand over retail for those watches just to get the Daytona at retail makes no sense. You could get the gmt and Daytona gray total for about 40k

What are they asking for the Daytona?

For that money couldn't you just go buy a Patek or AP?

I’d pick up that 116610ln at 4.6k in a heartbeat.

That's not the price of the watch. It's the amount required in a bundle on top of the price of the watch.

The ADs are probably stating those bundle prices to deter walk-in customers. They must already have their regular "syndicated runners" waiting to pick up those hot items.

No. I believe this means, you have to buy 30K worth of total watches, for a 9K GMT.

Any Sane person would simply buy a watch from a trusted seller on this board and be done with it. In addition I would "Rat" this crooked Dealer out to Rolex in a heart beat. My Parents tough me the difference between Right and Wrong. They are gone now but, I still know how to walk the line.

You can go to MBK in Bangkok and there is one grey dealer in particular who will have a number of difficult to find new Rolexes and literally a stack of dozens of unsigned warranty cards. I have zero doubt he’s a cousin of one of the AD owners.

I was in Bangkok at the end of November and was told I have to spend THB 800,000 (USD 24k) to be offered a Sub Date. Luckily, I was offered the watch not long after at a Dubai AD because they couldn't contact any of their clients.

Anything is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Bundle of rubbish at a certain amount gives you a entrance ticket to buy a faded blue and red GMT.They will get buyers of the package deal.

It wont be me .

Thank you for all your comments! Yes, they are all valid and you really question if a local Thai will go to such an extent to acquire a sports model. The amount quoted is indeed crazy. But at least they are being very upfront about it (regardless of whether the amount quoted is the true amount).

In Singapore, while a bundle purchase may be possible, the amount is not so certain and perhaps vary with ADs. Only VIPs who have purchase records are entitled to the sports models of Rolex (and Patek) nowadays. HQs will screen the names and they are the ones to approve the purchase for models like Daytona or Pepsi. So, leaving your name card is the way to go and wait for them to call you. It is impossible for walk in tourists to purchase the models unless they know someone who's a VIP.

The same goes for HKG ADs. I read from the local HKG forums that for Patek models, they only sell to those who have "senior" positions, as inferred from the name cards given. Doctors, lawyers, etc are obviously given preference. Commoners will never have a chance. Do correct me if I am wrong on this.

Congrats on your Sub-Date acquisition! Which AD is that? I was "only" quoted THB 150k for the bundle purchase.

In Dubai, there's only one AD, Ahmed Siddiqi & Sons. I put my name on a few of their branches. Some of them quoted 6-8 months waitlist for customers with no previously history (myself). I was super lucky to get the watch in less than a week!

It works because not everyone just wants a BLRO for example.

Let’s say you want a Day Date anyway. Boom. You get to buy a S/S BLR0 at retail.

ADs are going to have to train Bundle specialists so they can quickly use algos to make sure the exact right watches are bundled.
