Got the opposite of ‘the call’ - the email...

Hi All

Bit of background. Supposedly been on the list to receive a 116710BLNR for about 18 months (sigh, I know, another BLNR post). I have a modest history / relationship with the dealer - bought one Rolex, servicing of a couple of Rolexes through the dealer, some jewellery, some accessories.

Obviously since the 116710BLNR was discontinued, I went in and explained I was still interested in the updated version. They explained the plan was to transfer those in the old list (if it really existed - there seems to be some doubt among the community here) to the updated version as they had customers waiting they didn't to let down, but they were waiting to hear from head office.

Anyway today I got an email, simply entitled GMT Master. I excitedly opened it, could this be my time?

...nope, afraid not. The email simply stated the list is cancelled, no new list for the 126710.

I understand the realities of the situation, and I must admit I did fully expect this, realistically I had given up hope having read multiple posts here. And please, this isn’t a rant post about a rubbish dealer, it’s difficult with limited stock, but still stings a bit.

Such is life, I have a choice to give up, go grey, or get something else.

Get something else.

There are too many good choices out there to put up with this nonsense or pay over retail.

There are no lists! However the buy 3 PM pieces to get a low end stainless model is still in play.

Ouch. That must burn like hell. It’s one thing to suspect that Santa Claus is just your father drunk and trying to be quiet at 1am, it’s another thing to find out.

Given where you are - and i ponder this carefully - is it worth replying with something along the lines of, “Thank you for your email. I must admit that i had hoped that some semblance of loyalty between customers and companies was still a reality in the modern era; it is with regret that i realise it is not. I shall now be taking all of my business elsewhere. Thank you again for the basic courtesy of a computer generated email, and i wish you well.”

Amsterdam, Antwerp, etc are not short of watch dealers IIRC

At least you got closure. Some never get an email and keep waiting forever.

See again, nothing wrong with ADs saying to customers "we can't sell you hot watches bc we have a list" or "hot watches are for big spenders". I have zero problem with that.

I have a problem with this because they are not being HONEST. If they have a list, then honor the list. Don't just change what you've told people bc it has become inconvenient.

That stinks... gotta start from scratch as many ADs have a new policy that there is no "list"

This is why I have no loyalty to ADs and refuse to spend boatloads just to build a one-way relationship. Between the risk of having their license pulled and d1(k moves like this, it’s just not worth it.

Honestly, all the fanboy hype around the gmt is so off putting that it took all interest away for me... full disclosure, I was never truly in the market since I couldn’t get over the bezel font size. Hopefully you can find a new love!

These AD’s will change their attitude when the next inevitable financial downturn happens.

Sounds to me like the list just became a more exclusive list that you weren't deemed worthy of being on. That's unfortunate.

My question back to them would absolutely be "OK, so how does one go about getting the new 126710 BLNR from your store? Do I need to be there specifically at 1300 on Friday when new stock is delivered?"

They obviously have a plan and a "list", which is f'd up that they would do that to customers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the "relationship" that everyone preaches about building is one-sided and only works when you spend big. If you're not buying $50k+ in watches per year, there is no "relationship", you just got lucky.

That AD is nice that they communicated to you of the situation.

It's just a fact that the vast majority will never get their grails such as SS BLRO from their ADs since Rolex only allocates 2-4 SS BLRO to each AD per year. I think Rolex will do the same allocation of BNLR as the BLRO.

Yep, I was refused to be added to a list for the 126710BLNR by three ADs on release day (20-Mar), five minutes after the press release, no other customers in the three shops.

They refused to create a list where I would have been at the top. "No point in adding you to a fictitious list, we call our top tier clients", or "we don't take names for hot models", or "we prioritise our clients". The Rolex AD experience right there.

I intend on always going grey with Rolex from now on, whether it's steel, TT or PM. ADs will not have my custom.
