Fitting Watch Hands – Rolex Day-Date

H Guys,

I thought some of you would find this interesting. It's the correct way to fit watch hands and ensure the date changes at midnight. Please enjoy! Link below:

If you go to the blog page and click play, it just tells you you have to subscribe to my youtube channel to play the video?

It works for me. Nice video, thanks for sharing! Makes you wonder why so many watches have misaligned/out of sync hands with hour markers or date changes.

I open your link press play and the subscribe box appears. There is a close box button in the top right hand side of the box. When pressed it does not close the box. The box obscures the picture.

Must be a glitch. Sorry about that. It should hopefully clear up.

It worked fine for me, but there wasn't any narration to go with the demo. Are there "timing marks" on the gear train components to make sure the minute and hour pinions are synch'd with the day and date wheels before you install the hand set? TIA...

That worked perfectly. Thank you. Wish it was a bit longer.

Ashton
Good sharing the approach you undertake.

Isn’t there a predecessor first step before installing the handstack? You rotate the crown until the movement clicks the day/date to change. At that point you now have the movement’s gear train at midnight. Only then would you know to install the hour & minute hand at the 12 o’clock position.

Also, I saw while you advanced the time that you did the intermediate step of pausing at 6 o’clock to see that the hour and minute hands were perfectly straight.

Last thought, you got very close to midnight, it would be actually 11:59:30-ish when the day/date flipped to Wednesday the 9th. Did you remove the minute hand to true that up before installing the sweep seconds hand?

Yes, there is a step before this. It’s just not shown here. Well, if you want to get technical it’s probably 11:59 45 seconds. No, I wouldn’t take them off and reset it. This is well within tolerance. I’m not sure if the middle comment is a question?

Sorry about the lack of commentary everyone. This video was made a while back before I started my current format.

Not a question - it was a compliment.

I agree the calibration of the minute hand to 11:59:45 would be just fine.

Well, thanks for the compliment! Even if hands look aligned at 12 the always need to be checked at 6. This is especially important with any GMT.
