No, not for me. All else being equal, I'd prefer my money going towards the movement over the material.

Nope. You're swapping a nimble sports car for an Escalade. Ain't going to corner so well.

Even if financially it’s good. Imagine if something happens and you can’t get the 5712 back

I can’t imagine ANYONE in the world with platona offering this trade. Huge huge $20K loss to the Rolex owner.

I think the Platona is the pinnacle of Rolex and it’s the top piece in my collection. That being said, it’s also the first in my chopping block if I ever want to start downsizing. It’s a beautiful, robust watch and it’s very heavy! Would I trade a 5712 SS for one ..... in a heart beat if the deal was right. I’m not a fan of light watches. That’s why I ended up trading my AP Jumbo. I have a 5712r and I worry about the scratches too much. The Platona’s Ceramic bezel is a huge plus in both look and function.

What is the value of a Platona on the secondary market?

I've seen a range from $48K to $54 ... and of course more on Chrono 24.

From what I’ve seen the asking prices are about the same.

It is hard to ignore yesterdays prices but given the conversation we must!

Lately, people are asking 48-52k.

5712 retails for 40k under the new pricing structure. This is a deal either way for a 116506 seeker.

I don't think this is a real offer but a hypothetical?

I LOVE the platinum daytona...wife 'borrowed" it a year ago and I can't get it off her wrist!

the 5712 isn't appealing to me at all

i'd do it in a heartbeat. once the 5712 hype (based on scarcity only, not on the watch's qualities) is over you will be left with just a steel watch. i'd do the swap and sell the platona, get a DD platinum from grey and pocket the cash.

the famous swap, flip, buy, plus cash in your pocket move. You have skills.

I’d do it if you asked me on the Rolex sub-forum. But on the Patek sub-forum, I wouldn’t trade a Patek hat and t-shirt for a Rolex Day-Date and platinum Daytona. <rolling eyes just a little>

Its an even money trade right now in the 2ndry mkt with the proviso that a 5712 is harder to get. If the Platona sings to u more do it...but if not keep what u have.

The 5712 is light years better than the Rolex if you consider the watch’s qualities. Honestly, the only compelling thing about the Platona is the Plat. Clearly the stainless version is the desirable version, that’s why it sells at a premium. The platinum one is steeply discounted.
