Never.

Though I also agree with this:

If you are also going from 3 watches total to 1 watch total then I'd ask if you think you'll be happy with the same watch every day? That's a tough one for a lot of us, I know I couldn't do it.

That said I personally I think the 5711/12 are just a far more elegant execution of a sports watch. I therefore think that 5711/12 > any Rolex Sub/Daytona etc. More versatile, mostly due to the slimness of the case and the bracelet especially as these modern Rolex references have beefed up both on the case and bracelet.

The Patek 5712 is a pretty spectacular looking piece, and one that I'd consider as The One, type of watch you wear everyday without fail - so I'd consider it.

I like the suggestion of trading two watches, add some cash, and have the Rolex just to change things up or as a weekend warrior.

That's a tough one, if it were me, I'd swap the two, add some cash, and get the Patek.

YMMV.....

I don’t particularly like the dial of the 5712 but I would do it for a 5726 without hesitation.

No way. 3 grail watches for one currently overpriced grail. You could trade in the Rolex you wear or like least and pay cash for the rest of the price. Get 7500 or more off.

Easy yes if you are happy with 1 watch.
Or perhaps you have others anyway?

If the maths stacks up, then absolutely – on the assumption you feel that the 5712 offers more than each of the other three.

If you need something to tide you over whilst the Patek is away for service, then get your name down for the (pseudo Kermit) Harrods Green Tudor BB, or a nice (discontinued) Chopard LUC Sport 2000/Pro One.

I wouldn’t worry about others’ views regarding putting those three on the chopping block – some of us look forward, never backward, and it’s a case of “been there, done that…”

I totally agree with Ken.

You have the three most sought after Rolex sports watches in your collection. Although the 5712 would be a nice addition, I would not trade the Rolex's and save for the 5712.

It’s probably a fair deal, give or take a few $k, at market values. You’d get a better deal getting on a list for the 5712 and paying retail, and capitalising on the appreciation of the Daytona. I know, easier said than done, and if you can’t get on a list for the 5712, I’d consider selling the 3 Rolexes and getting something else by Patek, eg 5524, which whilst still fairly hot, you can still get one.

On paper I think you are coming out ahead with that deal. Whether you want to dump the rolex is your call.

The patek would be retail to go along side ceramic white Daytona and ceramic seadweller that won’t be sold , does this sway things?

Yes I would do it. Fair trade money wise if you consider the new pricing.

Yep, sell the Rolexes privately and buy the 5712 retail.

Which ceramic SD? The SD4K?

I’d do it regardless.

Although I still love the LVc, so if you can keep it, try to swing it. You can always sell it later on if it doesn’t get wrist time, although it’s so different than the rest of your pieces, and it’s fantastic in the summer.
