Fake or Real 1680

Hi guys, I am new to VRF and I am looking to buy my first Rolex 1680. The patina for this 1680 looks great but is it too perfect? How does the case, movement or any other details look? Thank you in advance for the feedback.

The fact that i went through LA watch works is a good sign, i'm sure they would have pointed out anything that was amiss .

You have a good point. I just wanted to verify since I am newer to vintage rolex.

Looks good and first three digits of serial number on LAWW receipt and watch are the same I note. Nice Mk2 dial. You could try contacting LAWW to confirm that paperwork is theirs and that serial number is that of the watch they serviced.....

The dial is original?
Why the patina(color) of hands and dial are not the same?

This Watch has been discussed in the past. The hands are not original to the watch.

Is it not possible for the hands to darken more than the dial. I don’t know the watch or about the replacement hands but I have seen many original watches where the hands and markers have not yellowed exactly the same

the hands are period correct match to the dial. hard to tell exactly from pics, but the color is a close match and in theory even a touch darker as per above can develop naturally.

i don't see what the issue is... many vintage watches have similar swaps/alterations ,whether its hands and/or insert and/or pearl and/or crystal and/or...

the value doesn't take any significant hit in this particular case, assuming anyone can even prove the hands are not "original" to the watch.

Yes, definitely possible, and not all that uncommon. Some collectors don't mind, others search out watches that have perfectly matching dial/hands patina.

I'm super picky about matching patina, and I'd be happy own the OP's 1680. Very nice-looking Sub.

The seller is a member of this forum and stated that the hands are not original to the watch.

Agree with this.

There's literally no way of knowing anyway whether they have been changed anyway.
To me, if they are period correct, non relumed hands, and match relatively close, I don't see the big deal at all.
I can understand a price hit due to color matched/relumed, or even chipped, but original and near perfect match, I can't see a problem personally.

Because its not all original.
To me its an issue, to others not, at best it should be stated in any sale

the ridiculousness lies in the fact that we could only ever know this precisely because the seller disclosed it; in other words, if he had not disclosed this, no one would ever know for sure because they are such a close period correct match = it's moot to anyone but the very few that a. know this and b. are OCD enough to care.

if i put 10 watches in front of you, 5 of which were "all original" and 5 that had their hands carefully matched by vintage experts, you would most likely pick the non-original watch a total 0 out of 10 times, or guess and pick some random combination from both sample sets.

Another forum member purchased the watch from him and noted that the lume on the hands glows...

It’s a very nice watch. These are getting harder to find and prices are climbing. If the price is right and seller reputable it’s certainly a nice possibility for you. If the hands drive you crazy LAWW has NOS tritium hands they can match for you.
