DayDate smooth bezels please

Considering a DayDate and have decided the smooth bezel is my favorite option. Anyone have smooth bezel 118208 or 09's out there?

Thanks,

RKT

Solid endlinks have been around a bit really. Stunning.

I like the fluted bezel but definitely would go for a smooth bezel like that. It looks like it's slightly domed/rounded. Perfect.

I don't care for the smooth bezel on the platinum DD40's at all, though.

Smooth is the way to go. The problem is I don’t think the day date comes in a smooth bezel in gold anymore. The only way it came was with the oyster bracelet or the platinum models.

I like the watch, but I never understood the day/date. If you can't remember the day of the week, then you have bigger problems.

Actually I do, it’s very useful! And a good excuse to look at my watch!

I don’t have any 6-digits, but Jay / fixinbones is correct, insofar as there are no new smooth bezels in gold, only platinum. (IIRC, the smooth bezels in gold carried through for a last few years into the early 2000s 6-digits.) I agree with you in general and also prefer the smooth bezels over fluted, but they are a small minority of DDs.

I believe Mr. Carver’s beautiful oxblood 1802 is indeed an earlier, “domed” bezel; the later smooth gold DD bezels (at least from ‘77 on, and I think from even earlier) are not similarly radiused.

OP, if indeed there are no 6-digit gold smooth bezels, would you be inclined to choose platinum, or to get an older 5-digit smooth bezel model, or ... ?

In any event, here’s my onyx/German 18208 smooth bezel. This is definitely one of my favorites — The minimalist, no-markers dials are a particularly good match for smooth bezels, imo.

Also, here’s a beautiful coral dial / “Gulda” 118209 in white gold, which is listed as a 2020 model - Not mine (more’s the tragedy), but - assuming that year is not a typo for 2002? - it does indicate that the smooth bezels were/are still offered in gold, at least for some DDs with an Oyster rather than a President bracelet.

This might be my favorite reference, absolutely beautiful. I’ve only ever seen yours in a few pictures here and there. All others have fluted bezels. I’m going to be on a long search for one in good condition.

I dont think I’d consider a 5 digit DD as I’m partial to the 6 digit DD clasp that has the new hook/beak clasp vs the original friction type clasp locking mechanism.

it's a valid point. i am guessing most complications on watches aren't used much in general.

anyway i'm just glad it's friday and i don't have to work tomorrow.
