Sea dweller 43mm is in my opinion the best SS Rolex model ever made.It is just so
well balanced on the wrist.

Sounds like you e decided

I hope you land one soon

It’s a heckuva watch, just too much for to wear as a daily

I like both. If I could only have one it would probably be the SD43.

Enjoyed the posts and threads on this subject which were all interesting . Having had the fortunate opportunity of purchasing both I passed on the Sub date a couple of years ago but went for the SD43 when offered it last month. I am really pleased I have made that choice and expect it to be my daily wearer for many years to come.

+1 on this being a great thread.

I have the new Submariner and plan to add a diver with a date next year, so do I go;

Submariner + Submariner Date or

Submariner + Sea Dweller

Plenty of time to peruse, contemplate and enjoy additions to this thread.

Superb duo! How do these two compare in terms of wearability?

Ideally you could try both on before purchasing. The Sea-Dweller weighs 70 grams more than the Submariner Date. It depends on your wrist size and age group.

I’m in the high risk category so I’d pick the Submariner.

Good luck!

Thanks!
The sub 41 fits smaller and slimmer. I like bigger watches but is new watch is very nice.

Niiice! Cracking watches Bro Watch. Even your toddler is choosing the SD43 :)
Think I’m going to be waiting a while by the feedback I had today but it will be worth it.

My decision would be based on wrist size. As mine is smaller I would opt for the sub. Also if I'm correct the sea dweller has larger bezel, so the proportions are different. For me the 5 digit sub looks like it has the right proportions for smaller wrists, while maybe the 6 digit sub is better suited for larger ones.

Apologies if there has previously been similar posts which I imagine there will have been 😬
When SD43 came out, everyone (well, almost everyone) hated the fact that SD went the Sub way, and that it was just a 43mm version of the Sub, and why would anyone buy that... oh, and addition of cyclops... SD blasphemy!

Now interesting to see all this support for SD43.

While it is a gorgeous watch, part of its appeal was the relatively slimmer looking logs and more tapered look vs. the maxi sub.

Now with the new sub being 41mm, and going the same route... I would personally prefer the new Sub41 over the SD43 for everyday wear. The only thing stopping me from buying a Sub41 now is the high asking prices of Trusted Sellers.

Someone raised the good point somewhere that... well, the SD's a better watch.

Take away all that though, and the most straightforward part by far is the difference in size. If you're a fan of larger, chunkier watches, go with SD. Slimmer watches, go Sub. (But, uh, don't pay above list for Sub. Don't think it's worth it. I'd rather wait and wait or just buy something else altogether.)

That is incorrect. 159g vs 183g. Sub 41 is 87% of the weight of the SD43. A lot less of a difference than people make it out to be.

It really comes down to wrist size. I have a 7.125 inch wrist and the sub 41 looks a bit small. Also, I have been wearing larger size watches for a long time, so it felt small too. SD43 feels right at home on my wrist.

You can’t really go wrong either way.

I think your wrist size and employment are factors to consider. That Sea Dweller requires a big wrist, and it isn’t going to fit under a standard dress shirt cuff.

A Sub can be worn by anyone anywhere anytime.

For me with a 7.65 in wrist the SD43 is everything the sub should have been. At arms length the sub looks pretty small on my wrist, not the SD. As for the new 41mm sub, it pretty much looks the same as the 40mm. The sub is what most all new comers to collecting want so do yourself a favor and get one that is not so common in the wild. You will also really like the red lettering once you can gaze at it on your wrist.

I went SD43 and regret it. The wrist presence is amazing but I just don’t like how it feels on my wrist.

If you intend to add more Rolexes to your collection go with the SD43.

If you want it to be your only GADA watch, go with the sub.

You are correct. As far as the watch goes, it’s pretty identical, but the MKI was produced for only 1 year (much less made), was the true anniversary watch and has the “historic” significance
So for collectors, all the above mean a lot. Look at the flat 4 Kermit. While some think the SD43 MKI will not be the next kermit, for some collectors they want to have that “less common” dial
That’s the only difference

I’d go with the new sub between these two. I owned the SD43 and didn’t like how it wore on my wrist. My JC wears more comfortably despite it being a bigger watch. Some members have pointed out that the SD43 caseback protrudes making it wear higher on the wrist. I know it would be really hard to do in today’s market but trying both on if at all possible.

If you have the wrist for it then the SD43, and it’s not even close

Sub Date if it’s your one and only....SD43 if it’s in a collection.
