Hello TRF

I have a wonderful 5165 and would like to collect here informations/data/pics of this Mega rare reference. It’s very hard to find data through the Internet.

Years of production
How many units
Caliber

If you could share your knowledge it would really be helpful :))

Here is mine :

I believe the 5165 was the update to the 5065 and introduced at the 10th anniversary of the aquanaut (2007) along with the 5167- used the 324 movement rather than the 315 movement of the 5065. Same 38mm size and look as the 5065.
Made from 2007 to 2011.

Rumor has it that 5165a is the model Paul McCartny wears ~ it fits his smaller stature better ~ vs. the 5167a that everyone assumes he wears ...

The 5165 came w both the 315 and the 324 movement very similar to the 5711, likely the earliest pieces with 315, later ones with 324. My understanding is that it was only produced for one year, meaning 2007 and at best 2008. It was a dog at the ADs and you could still get it there years later. I never saw any 5165 for sale that had the Patek seal which supports that production ended in 2009 at the latest.

I've been through 3 over the years, all sold on here I believe.

I wanted to speculate at one point and get as many as I could, but I would've had to sacrifice the fun of collecting other stuff so I opted against. Probably the wrong financial decision!

I don’t have any statistics on production numbers but as a fellow 5165 owner I can say it’s an incredible alternative to the 5167 for those of us with smaller wrists. The 5165 is so well constructed and looks way more refined than its predecessor.

It's best if you wait for your first issue to arrive......

It will have your owner ID number then email them your full name, address and owner ID number, requesting the back issue....

or

Sent them a postcard requesting back issue.... (The postcard is in your first issue with all your information)......

Hello all,
After reviewing this forum in depth and searching out references I have decided on pursuing a 5165 instead of a 5167 or 5065. I've done some limited searching on Chrono24 but it does not appear that there are many available at the moment. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to go about obtaining a 5165?

Thanks,
Deepak

At the moment there are more 5165 available on Chrono24 than ever - 5 pieces as we speak - all you need to do is write the cheque. Typically there have been between 0 and 2 for sale.

It seems that some owners want to get out while the going is good. Asking prices have gone crazy and are now almost 10k higher than for the 5167. Don't think this will last despite the 5165's rarity as most people prefer the size of the 5167. Also don't see the 5165 getting moved anymore - seems like the demand is just not there at current asks.

Not sure... when I see the 5065 buzz, one can say there is a demand for 38mm.
And personnaly I do prefer 5165 over 5065 over 5167...

5165 is my favorite watch. For me it just fits better than the 5167 but shares all other characteristics with its bigger brother.

I have been tracking the sales listings for the past few weeks/months. I agree that the asking price is very high and somewhat absurd. I would be willing to buy one at/around the price of a 5167 but when trying to negotiate with the sellers most of them are steadfast, some even rude (one told me they would increase the price for trying to negotiate). We'll see how the price shakes out over the next few months but I cannot see them getting any higher than they are now!

I have been looking at the 5065 as well but the '3' on the dial and the strap not being flush with the case is putting me off.

I agree 5165 is very high now
But dont forget it is discontinued and rare + rumors says Aquanaut prices will have a 10% increase.
5165 is asking for a premium over 5167 thats not absurd...
