And for the 25 time : Platona vs DD 40 platinum

Both ice blue dial , no diamonds.
Just curious , again !
Everyone pounds value retention, looks and wearability in a different way. Well at the end of the day the bottom line is where would you put your money ?

Platona is great, but for me platinum Day Date is the ultimate PM Rolex. Daytona belongs more to the sport side, love it in steel, Day Date is where PM belongs to.

Hi Jorge. I’ve debated this in the past myself, always came back to the Daytona. I’m a huge fan of having a date....but the Daytona is just too beautiful! I’ve had both at different times, and at the same time. Have the Daytona today, and wouldn’t pick any different. I think the DD is gorgeous, but put simply (IMO)....the Daytona is a better daily wearer, and just better to look at!

I like both , but what really scared the crap out of me is when a good friend here in the forum sold it and got like 38-39k for his DD 40 platinum.
Also I love the contrast of the Platona subdials and bezel with the ice blue dial.
Platona is king , I guess I can buy a DD when I turn 60 , lol

Easy choice for me ... DD40

Although the Daytona is no doubt a beautiful reference, I prefer Professional Rolex watches in stainless steel. Call me old fashioned, but I just think that it’s truer to the way Wilsdorf intended.

When I think of Rolex precious metal, I always think of the Day Date

Yeah....I wasn’t going to talk “value” , as it wouldn’t come into play in this decision, (for me) but.....there’s no doubt which one holds better, at least in today’s market.
And that contrast you talked about...BINGO! Again, my opinion, but that’s what I love over the diamond dial.

Had the platona but found I wore 116500 more, so sold it. Prefer steel for that one

There is a factor that I think plays a factor here and is simply that the DD 40 platinum can be had for 45k today and 65k for the Platona ( grey market prices )

Well, if you have the opportunity, the SS Daytona is a great alternative. And there is no SS alternative for a DD. So if you want both, that’s the way to do it. That said, the platinum Daytona is a great daily.

No bad choices here!

My pic so far has been the DD40. The ice blue dial is big and bold, not broken up by little sub dials that no one uses.

Why do I want to pay more money for a complication no one uses? Flame suit on!

I really love my DD40. Every time I wear it, it puts a smile on my face.

And for the 25 time : Platona vs DD 40 platinum

I love this poll, and I love both of the watches in it. If one, the Platona for me. At least that’s how I feel today!

For value retention, definitely Platona and sport model are better than DD.

Personally, I own a white gold GMT. If you ask me to choose again, I will choose the WG DD + a stainless steel GMT. I think precious metals is good for dress watches and stainless steel is good for professional watches.

P.S. I can sell my BLRO to make a little profit after two years of wearing it. Of course, I won’t sell it.

Depends on your collection and what your style is like
You can’t go wrong with either! I had the same question and never pulled the trigger yet but with two Daytona’s in my collection decided on the DD

If value retention factor is so important why you even ask? You can always buy second hand.

I’m not a Daytona fan but I’d really have a tough time justifying 20K more for an old movement and an inferior bracelet.

DD40

Platinum Daytona. My reasoning: I would rather have a Platinum Daytona and some other PM DD (like the RG Olive Dial DD40) rather than a Platinum DD and some other PM Daytona. Not saying that's the decision you're making today, but it never hurts to think down the road a little!
