Original hesilite is you only go with 1 speedy. If you opt for more, vintage offers some real interesting options.

Yeah the Speedy is awesome, thats why it has such a good resale value lol

The Speedy is a great watch. I would go that route. Buy used and save a good chunk of that $5K for your next watch. You should be able to pick a real nice one up for ~$3,500

Definitely can’t pay retail for it.

But it is, perhaps, the best watch under $3500...

Is that a racing strap? I really like the design on the band.

With the huge 24% discount I got on my Omega MOTM I bought the Blue Cordura strap (Speedy Snoopy Version) and the Omega deployment clasp.

Got both of them at discount as well.

Really pleased with all my Omega purchases...........

Next buy is a White dial, either the Mitsukoshi or July 1969 anniversary version, eventually I will end up with the watch look I actually wanted but couldn't buy at sensible money.

What’s resale have to do with it? Rolex has name recognition, period my friend. Sure speculators dictate quality of a watch now, lol. Try this my friend, get your Daytona out, time something to about 12 minutes, look down and let me know if you can read it? No you can’t can you? Can’t tell if it’s 11, 12, or 13 minutes elapsed. Utterly useless other than ad jewelry. Want a watch, get a speedy, want commodified jewelry, Rolex.

OEM Omega Rallye strap. Previous owner bought it and included it with the sale. I love it - especially his it curves where it meets the case. Keep in mind the rallye strap uses a different size deployant than the alligator strap.

Speedy Pro is a great way to diversify one’s collection. And so handy! Timing the washing machine at the laundromat cafe in Berlin right now. Next time, must pack more shirts!

I'd get the speedmaster over the datejust for sure. Cheaper and much more appealing imo.
The have a lot of different versions tough, you might want to check them out to make the right purchase.

ohh definitely, I bought a speedy professional 2 years ago for $2500 off of the for sale forum. At that price it was definitely worth it. But no way would i drop 5k on that. I would rather look for a used Rolex

You're welcome. Mine is in a non-OEM deployant which has been really good so far. If you are interested I can try to get you the info on it. The Omega deployant clasp is not cheap (neither is the strap)

Nice looking Omegas!

Unfortunately I can't stand their bracelets. Omega + Rolex Bracelet would be a great combo.
(Oh I can't wear leather due to sweat, it would smell like an old sandal by the end of Day1)

I do agree with this. I don't wear leather straps in the summer. Switch to steel bracelet or my rubber strap. I do the same with my Tudor

I like the look, the fit and the feel of the speedmaster, but it’s not true water proof.

Ok, take the new seamaster. More accurate than the sub, more antimagnetic, just as water tight. Not talking hype here, name one way the sub is superior to the seamaster, I dare you. One technical way? You can’t can you.

I been collecting for 30+ years and I like and wear Rolex, but the older one gets the more one understands there are other great watches. A lot of Johnny come lately’s to the watch hobby buy Rolex as investments and think all their resale is the best, therefore they must me the best. I suggest you do your homework.

I also might suggest you take a look at Walt oditz epic takedown of the explorer I movement and then pick your idol up off the ground.

No reason to spend $5k on a Speedmaster, they are available for far less preowned, so let that be your guide...

Everyone needs a speedy. I may add one soon. Has to be the current one that’s closest to the original. I’ve had other forms of speedies like the dsotm but they are not the same. The 50m is the only thing holding me back. If it can stand space I don't know why it can’t be 100m at least. I don't spend a lot of time on the moon but do love to take my watches for a swim.

Agreed! Go Silver Snoopy if you are hung up on resell value. If you want a great, historic, obtainable watch, look no further than the moonwatch.

If you already have a DJ in the collection I would definitely go for a Speedy. It's a real classic, in fact I've been considering one myself lately.

Yes the Seamaster is superior to the modern Sub. You seem to be an overzealous Omega homer who needs to find comfort in your ownership. Quit while you’re ahead.

I have been a Rolex guy forever, but I also buy other brands. If you really compare the Seamaster and the Sub, the seamaster wins in every category except brand recognition and with that resale. It can also be had for quite a bit less.

Back to the original question, Speedy Pro. I am wearing mine right now on its bracelet and I love it. I have straps for winter and keep it on the bracelet for sweaty summers. It is so versatile, it’s a pure joy to own.
