Agree 16610LV is sublime but disagree that the 16710 is close to it. It is nowhere near close.

Yes. It’s a Swiss Army watch. It keeps perfect time, doesn’t show wear or scratches (black plastic), only needs a battery every 5 years, and costs $150.

Define "perfect." I owned a blue dial, fluted DJ on oyster and found it to be the ultimate "do it all" watch. That's also why I sold it as it didn't seem to fit in well in a collection.

Many come to mind that I've owned. Patek 5712, 5164, 5167... BUT... I think none of them come close to the absolutely amazing, 16710 Pepsi.... And to be honest, none of the latest Rolex models come to mind. None, and I've had most of them.

I think the 16710 is the perfect watch, and second to it would be my 5164.

This is a grear article on Hodinkee on the 16710.

The BB chrono... the hour hands block the minutes dial which I just see as a complete failure. Shame as a waterproof Chrono by Tudor really does fill a niche in the market.

See, I have have been one of the lucky ones and have a fantastic fit with the 16610 bracelet and find that the light weight adds to the comfort. The 4 fine adjustments have been more than adequate. My Daytona has the solid bracelet, and only the quarter link quick adjustment. The added heft while feeling more luxury does not actually add strength.

But that black bay looks like it’s a cross between a Daytona and sub, but you are spot on; the hands obscure the time and a fair amount as well. As I need the chrono, the possibility exists that it may not impact me all that much, but I feel that for even 4 grand, it’s a compromise I’m not willing to make. The only other possibility for a water proof chrono would be the VC overseas, but I don’t really care for the styling, though it’s a great watch for sure.

Perfection lies in the eye of the beholder, be it due to sentiment, form, or function. For me, that would be my father’s 1601 as it keeps COSC time, looks great with scrubs, suits, and board shorts, and puts a wide smile on my face every time I look at it on my wrist.

True... I think if a 16570 polar and 14060M had a baby, it would be close for me.

Though, I'm not sure what I would take from each. A date, diver bezel (for timing) and a second time zone are great. sadly, it's hard to pack into one watch. Closest would be a Tudor Heritage Chrono. However, they are too big for me.

How it fits is of course always going to be the acid test, and that will also always be very individual. For me, it’s the best fit I’ve had in the about 14-15 luxury watches I’ve had the good fortune of owning so far, so pretty perfect in that regard, but I can easily see how that would likely be different for someone else. I also find that the strap options are very counter intuitive on this watch. You’d think it’s a steel only watch with two straps thrown in as a gimmick, but on wrist, the leather is where things really come together for me and the rubber is such a fantastic option for things like hikes or generally on hot and humid days.

I'd say a 16710 with all three bezels (Pepsi/Coke/black) - perfection only lasts so long so at least you get the option to update it every time you eye starts to wander.

Too bad the current 6-digit GMT references don't offer this same inter-changability.
