Companies like Prohunter pvd coat the ringlock. That's probably your best solution

Blackout concept do a reverse text - black ring, silver text,

If you can find a watchmaker to disassemble it, should be fairly easy to get it done.

Would look good IMO

Have to admit the PVD option doesn't look half bad. Been wearing the DSSD for nearly 5 years and the writing is nowhere near as noticeable as some of the pictures make it out to be.

There’s more text on the average Rolex dial than the whole of the Old Testament. What’s a few more words?

I can understand you want to get rid of the "ringlock" text, it's totally useless and ugly IMO.

I remember a post a while back about a guy who had a DSSD and removed the entire bezel. He got the same type of criticism. But I recall that the guy really liked the look so who really cares what others think. If the OP wants to buy a watch and modify it then so be it. No skin off my back.

Isn't it the same process to remove the "YACHT-MASTER II" from that bezel?

I think it would be a terrible mistake and no doubt a costly one on both ends

Maybe ugly in your opinion, but not useless. It is a marvel of engineering and the reason the watch can go to those depths.
No different than car makers writing V8 or AMG on the fenders.

Rolex is proud of this tech, they want to show it off. And in real life it vanishes unless your looking at your watch through a loop.

The system may not be useless but the text is. Rolex really do put too much writing on their watches. It doesn’t stop me from owning them and having a lengthy hit list of more, but if there’s one thing I’d change, it’s all that bloody writing. It’s completely unnecessary.

Regarding your analogy, a car can easily and freely be debadged. If not from the factory, then with a hairdryer and some dental floss.

A blackout pvd ring would look pretty cool on that one

I wear mine everyday as other folks have said the text is much more prominent in pictures. On the wrist, unless you're looking for it, you don't really notice it. I think modding it, or moving on to another watch is the way to go if it bugs you that much.

I've owned it since 2008...one of the first that rolled off the line.

Considering a switch to the Red SD.

I appreciate all the comments.

I knew the question would ruffle some feathers/stir a little debate.

I 100% fully appreciate the engineering, craftsmanship, size/heft, domed crystal, no cyclops, dial -color/markers/hands, clasp, bezel, extra large crown, steel ringlock itself...looks so cool/utilitarian at 3 & 9 o'clock areas, etc, etc. That is why I bought it and have kept it for 10 years. Its just a shame that the ringlock is screaming up at the wearer. The letters are larger than the "ROLEX" on the dial! That is a real head-scratcher. The bragging should be on the back of the case. Let the product speak for itself. IMO as the watch is literally perfect otherwise.

Actually, if it had 3 lines on the dial it would be the perfect watch in my eyes. Rolex crown logo and "ROLEX" north of the hands and "DEEPSEA" south of the hands. The new bracelet fixes the other beef. Rolex should hire me as a design consultant...ha ha!

I'll look into the Red SD if I can find one to try on...then look into having the cyclops removed LOL!!

May also check out the new version with wider bracelet as that is a huge improvement.

Thanks for the responses.
