SubC 114060 vs 114300 OP39 White Dial

I've been contemplating moving my Sub for a little while now. The ubiquity and bling factor kind of gets to me sometimes. People notice the Sub, for good and bad. I do find it beautiful though, but I'm feeling like I want something more understated, rather than the most recognizable luxury watch on the planet.

I went to a local AD to try on the new 114300 OP 39mm white and black dials. They didn't have the black dial. Upon trying on the white dial something really clicked. It is so simple and and so much more svelte than my sub. It felt more comfortable, in a lot of ways. Pictures don't do the white dial justice. It changes quite a bit at different angles.

So I'm starting to think about selling the 114060 and acquiring the white 114300. I'm not in a financial spot to add the OP at the moment. I feel like the OP will fly under the radar and is kind of a "cooler" outside the box choice despite it's monochromatic look.

What do you think? Make the swap? Maybe I've scratched my sub itch? Pics or it didn't happen...

Whatever floats your boat.
IMHO I would keep the Sub, no doubt!

Sub and OP make a good duo, IMO. Maybe wait a little longer and add it? If it’s one or the other, personally, I’m keeping the sub. Good luck

No, I wouldn't sell the Sub and buy the OP unless you're completely out of love with your Sub and completely over the moon about the OP. I don't hear you claiming to feel this way about either watch.

You're bored. This will pass.

The new white OP is surprisingly very attractive... Especially compared to the new black version. Meets that balance of perfect for jeans or a suit. It wears better on the wrist than the larger DJ. I think it would make a nice addition to anyone's collection.

That said, I don't think I would sell a Sub for it. I recently acquired a Sub ND for an upcoming anniversary and this post did nothing but made me desire the Sub more. An OP may be in my future as I suspect it is in yours.

Definitely Sub, and I don't get how the white dial OP is more "understated." That definitely sticks out.

Flip it for a 14060m which has less bling factor but maintains the utility and long term value retention

I prefer the OP, more comfortable for daily wear... or the 5 series sub as suggested above. I really enjoy the new white dial OP's...I just wish the 36 didn't have the double indices

I love that new white dial OP 114300, and I'm hoping to add it to my collection, but I definitely could not sell my 14060 for it. I think in the near future, those OPs will be found at a discount, while the 14060 will most likely stay the same or go up in value. Why don't you make a plan to start saving for the OP and buy it in the future. If and when you have both, you still feel like flipping the 14060, then you will be able to make that decision, sell the Sub and now you have extra money for something else because you already saved and bought the OP.

I completely understand the desire for an understated watch. That's why my first watch wasn't a Sub, eveb though I love the look.

I got the explorer i... Same status as OP, with just a little touch of a sporty feel to it. The 3,6,9 gives it that sporty touch.

Plus, the explorer has a folding clasp, which is a nice extra.

White dials look great... But black is always better for every event and every shirt.

Good luck

I'd be looking at the OP 34mm if I were you. The 39 looks massive on you, imo

Agreed. You don't want an OP to be nearly the same size as a Sub, because the big dial reads large. Plus, the 34mm is probably the best looking modern Rolex.

The 36mm has a different dial. How big is your wrist?

I dislike Subs, and own an rhodium OP39. It is a comfortable, easy watch to wear almost everywhere. I'm sure the same is true of that beautiful new white dial.

SubC 114060 vs 114300 OP39 White Dial

Is there a way you could keep the sub and get the OP, too? This is what I would do and in fact planning to do in the near future. One will complement the other perfectly.

I'd never lose my Sub but it you do the OP is exactly as you described. It's a winner.

I'd agree with others, keep the sub for a while and save for the OP. Maybe your opinion of the sub will change in the meantime, you can add the OP. If you have both you'll probably find that you wear the OP most times but then at certain times like on the weekend or something you'll love throwing on the sub. I'm afraid you'll regret selling the sub, and when you've been wearing the OP a while and have that thought "oh i'll wear my sub a bit" and you realize it's gone you'll really regret it.

Hope that makes sense. Bottom line is just add, when you can.

Thanks...this is a tough one! I can't justify having 2 at the moment.

I don't really feel comfortable wearing the sub to work. I feel like the OP would be much more appropriate and one of the reasons I'm considering the move.

If you’ll wear and enjoy the white OP more than the sub then do it.

The market for the 114060 is really good now so you won’t be out much money for trying it out.

I recently tried on the OP white and really liked it. It seems to be white then silver, and gray at different angles. I’d really love to learn more about this dial.

The only reason I passed on it is because I plan to buy a white Patek 5711 in the near future and am saving for that.

One thing to consider if you haven’t already is the lack of micro adjustment on the clasp. The glide lock on the sub is great for wrist swelling or contractions

The white OP will have to stay the same circumference all the time so it may take some adjustment to get it just the right fit to work for all occasions.

My vote is to do the trade if you’ll enjoy the OP more

As much as I love the white OP, no I would not. You will be “trading down” and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Just financially, the flip from Sub to OP will make you less then a trade from OP to Sub will cost you. Same would go for explorer 1 (less variance) but still a better watch then OP IMO. As far as understated goes, it doesn’t get much better then Exp.

I think you might regret this one later if you do switch. Looks like the sub is your only Rolex and most would agree with me that there is no better Rolex out there if you just want 1. If you are looking for an understated watch, maybe consider buying a cheaper brand? Seiko makes some killer watches of any style you can dream of at very reasonable prices. This way you get to keep the cake and eat it too.
