Batman Vs Coke

I've narrowed down my choice for my first Rolex to the BLNR or the 16710 Coke, which do you guys prefer and why? I'm losing sleep over this

I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I think the BLNR is more elegant, goes with more clothes etc. The blue/black is an amazing combo.

The red does 'pop' though.

It comes down to what features and proportions you prefer with a 5 digit vs 6 digit. I prefer the newer features but the 16710 Coke holds a special place with me since it was my first. I'd still choose the BLNR though.

Aren't Coke cans red and white? Coke Zero, wouldn't that be a more appropriate monicker? Sorry, carry on.

$2000 difference for a 20 year newer watch + ceramic. BLNR all the way.

I'm actually pretty severely color blind, I'm happy you said that because sometimes I tend to choose really loud colors that are visible to me but can come off as too much for most people and don't match clothing. That was my main concern with the BLNR

Get the Coke so I can have more chances of getting the BLNR.

In short, BLNR. For me the bracelet is miles ahead of the 5 digit. I also love the ceramic. Most of all, to me the black (for night) and blue (for day) makes absolutely sense.

BLNR, I like the 6 digit's bezel numbers more than the 5's.

16710 for me if I had to choose. Don't like the large busy numbers on the ceramic bezel. If it wasn't for the aesthetics though I would go 6 digit all the way.....

Get the BLNR now and then add a Coke when it's (truly) released in Baselworld 2018

There is nothing wrong with the 5 digit models. In fact, they are iconic. The BLNR has the benefit of having the modern bracelet and 24 click bezel. These factors alone, make the 116710 the favored choice.

Have you tried both on ?? I think it comes down to whether you prefer the 5 digit or 6 digit case. I know its blasphemy .. but there are companies producing the Aluminum Bezel Insert in Blue/Black if you feel the urge to try it out on the 5 digit ....

Two great watches and you can’t go wrong with either but here’s my reasoning to go with the BLNR for now

Blnr is still in production so it’s easy to get a mint condition watch
Price (relatively) is what blnr sells for, not 3 times the original price like coke

In a couple of years IF the BLNR gets discontinued, its price will sky rocket but coke will be around the same price as it already skyrocketed

So buy BLNR now and in a couple of years you can add the coke!

Good luck

I haven't tried either on actually, might sound silly but I just tried on my father sub and assumed they would wear similarly.

I'm intrigued by these bezel inserts you speak of.....

That's the 5 Digit GMT bonus .. you can swap Bezel inserts at will (can't do that with Ceramic) .. Rolex offers Black / Pepsi / Coke ... and non-Rolex inserts are available in other colors ... check eBay for aftermarket .. and several folks on this board can acquire Rolex inserts at a decent price. FYI .. I went with the 5 DIGIT myself ...

IMO, the 6 digits wear soooo much better than the 5 digit series. You get more removable links...meaning you don't have to go through all that nonsense with pulling out a permanent link with vise grips (ouch) Not to mention the easy link clasp over the tuna can clasp. Those two features are a slam dunk for me.

Now, the ceramic v. aluminum bezel...not really an "upgrade", again IMO. While the ceramic is scratch resistant and will be easier to keep looking pristine over time, if something does happen to it and it shatters, then you're looking at taking out a mortgage to replace it. Whereas the aluminum bezel can easily and inexpensively be replaced. And the colors on the bezel are so vibrant...breathtaking in real life.

So, in the end, you've just got to decide which model has the features you want. I wear my watches so I choose the ceramic version.

The BLNR has all the advantages of the newer design. Much improved bracelet and clasp. Extended warranty. Ceramic bezel. And wears a little larger due to the maxicase. However.... it's blue. And for me the blue just has never worked as well as the red/black bezel on the 16710. To me that color does not make me think of a high quality rolex timepiece. Not sure why, but that's the way I think of it. So for me I'd pick the 16710. It's a classic.

One other big difference - PCL's on the BLNR vs brushed links on the coke. When I wound up making my decision, that was the difference maker. I just didn't want the PCL's on what I consider to be a sports model.

So the good news is that you guys have really given me a lot of good information to factor into this decision, the bad news is that I'm even more confused now and having a harder time making up my mind. I guess that's what you'd call a high class problem

Another vote for the Blue. The black and red have always clashed to me. Now If you compared to Pepsi, I would chose pepsi.
