Vintage gold dress watches
Has the vintage solid gold dress watch market fallen off the ends of earth as of late. It seems like there selling like crazy on Ebay but even vintage watch collectors/sellers aren't interested in trading or selling them.

It can’t fall below (value of gold case by weight) plus (value of movement and other parts sold as spares), can it?

That's kind of a broad statement.
Are there any specific examples you are thinking of? |

Part of the problem is the fact that few people actually know what a dress watch is. They confuse a $10,000 tool watch with something that could be worn with a suit. Just because it's expensive, that doesn't make it a dress watch. Also the majority of vintage dress watches are in the 32-35MM range which excludes the whole dinner plate sized watch crowd. When pocket watches became obsolete I'm certain that millions went into the garbage or were melted for scrap, sadly I think vintage dress watches may be headed for the same fate.
