If he didn't know what it was, then he wouldn't have posted the link for the Hodinkee artilce that stated their watch was selling for $45,000. Its right in his Ebay description.
On 10-Jan-10 at 10:36:01 AEDST, seller added the following information: Here's some more information on the watch: http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2008/11...of-the-ha.html The watch sale didn't end until: Ended 11 Jan, 201008:42:26 AEDST Rolex Sea Dweller Double Red From 1973: The Hardest of the Hardcore Diving Watches http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2008/11...of-the-ha.html |

He updated the watch info on 10-Jan-10 at 10:36:01 AEDST I would have immediately ended the sale if I found out I was selling a grail watch for a song and a dance. He waited a day??? |

Hey DadsWatch72!
It's true, I didn't know what I had, I just posted that link as I found it. I have since found out it was made in 1967/8 and am doing further research and answering the many emails I have received regarding this watch. I have stopped the auction on ebay and am doing further research on it. I am playing this one by ear. Thank you for your comments. Regards, Abi Nathan Quote:

It is possible not to know that you own a rare watch. I wore mine for many years without realizing what it was worth. Of course, it wasn't always worth as much as it is now. It appreciated more in the last few years. Anyway, once I did a few google searches on the thing, I realized. If I were posting/selling the watch on Ebay (considering I went to all that trouble to find out how to sell on Ebay), then I would have done my homework and researched for an approximate value to sell the watch. And like I said, if you really didn't know what you had and didn't do any research before you put a price of 500 AU on the watch, then you would have immedicately stopped the auction. You didn't stop it for another day, if you stopped it at all. The time might have ran out for all I know. I'm not that versed on Ebay so I can't say for sure. Why don't you post some clear close up pictures of the dial, caseback, and lug engravings for the experts to look at? That might help.
There are two other DRSD for sale right now on Ebay in Australia for reference. Surely you saw those among your watch? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ROLEX-SUBMARI...item518f93b206 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ROLEX-Submari...item588564a0e0 |

Yes, I know I'm a bit slow but selling on ebay is new to me and I really didn't know I had a 'grail' watch. I have been a travelling musician for most of my life and haven't kept up with the value of things and really didn't know what it was I was trying to sell until I tried to sell it. I have received much help from members of this forum and from well-meaning ebay members. This has expanded my knowledge regarding this watch. It's definitely for sale but I want to take more time finding the right buyer now I know more. I will attempt to get better pictures and post them here in the near future.
Thank you for your comments. Regards, Abi Nathan |

Thats because a DRSD being sold for 457.176 USD IS unbelievable. We have a saying in Indiana....."Don't piss down my back and tell me its raining". I hope I'm wrong, I really do. My father was a systems anyalyst in computers. Big IBM man. I assume that most computer programmers have an analytical way of thinking. I also assume that you would have went about selling the watch in an analytical mannor (you indicated your into computers on your website). Even your name haitek has computer "overtones". Most computer geeks I know are that way. You could be the exception. |

Hey guys!
I'm not a systems analyst nor am I analytical in my processes. I am a musician who uses computers to record and make music. I fly by the seat of my pants most of the time, as I did on ebay. Incidentally 'mannor' is actually spelt 'manner' and 'your' is spelt 'you're'. Hey! I've always been the exception. Regards, Abi Nathan Quote:

Abi,
Hang in there. These guys are the best! I started here a little while ago, and they helped me learn more about Rolex than I could on my own. If you post good pics, your going to get the full scoop. Welcome, and enjoy the knowledge! |

Hey guys!
Photos as promised. You can see the damage to the crystal clearly, a few scratches on the case and the general condition of the watch. I eagerly await your comments. Regards, Abi Nathan |

Dude...Get ready....I'll let the pro's fill you in on the specs. How did you happen upon this watch? The crystal looks to have been polished after the damage (needs new), no pearl on the bezel. The bezel insert may have been replaced after the incident that scuffed the crystal. In the meantime, can you get pics of the movement. These guys will need to see the inside to give you the full scoop. Good luck!
