The next best thing to a daytona?
Hey Guys,
I'm not a chrono guy but as of lately I've been lusting for one. White or Black Daytona for me it's the real deal but I don't comfortable as of now paying that price (investments and other business are my priority right now) so I was wondering, is the Black Bay chrono the next best thing to a Daytona? Obviously they're worlds apart but I'm refering to wearability, versatility and durability. I've fallen in love with Tudor and maybe this is my next move. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

The Tudor Oysterdate 79160/70/80 or the Prince Date 79260/70/80 are the closest to the Daytona. Some even have Rolex case, crown.

I would prefer it to a Daytona. I would also prefer a Speedmaster (which is why I bought one).
Don't understand the fuss over any modern Daytona. They are hard to read, the subdials have inconsistent numbering and they look better on women. I would take the Tudor all day...

Tudor Black Bay Chrono is odd and proportions are off. Too big and thick.
Much better chronos from Omega (Speedmaster or Seamaster), Zenith... and yes, Breitling! On the super affordable side, you have the Hamilton Intra-Matic. On the luxury side, you have the Piaget Polo Chronograph. There are also nice Tag Heuer chronographs. So many better choices than the Tudor. |

I'd get a Speedmaster, but I have no idea which one. I don't follow all of Omegas variations. But as much as I love Daytonas, I can't see a white SS Daytona being worth 5x (or whatever) what a Speedmaster goes for.

I'd argue that the Daytona is the next best thing to a Speedmaster

Speedmaster, and it’s not even close. Get a simple/classic one.

I'm likely going to pick up the saphire sandwich 2021 Speedmaster soon. My considerations: Grey Daytona / AD Tudor Chrono/ AD (mega Speedmaster. I'm feeling like the METAS Speedmaster is the win. I do wish it had a date complication and was rated for more depth but I'm not honestly planning on taking it in the water so.....

Not a fan of the modern Daytona great movement but its got to be the most overhyped Rolex watch ever but whatever floats your boat..

I agree with the ones saying Rolex Daytona is a little overstated. There are so many awesome chrono watches out there that have fun with styles and colors. To me Rolex is the most BORING when it comes to chronometer watches. Yep I said it. Omega, Brietling, even LONGINES are much more fun and various in their chrono styles. The thing Daytona wins on is the market price but if you want to enjoy a watch then get what you like the most

Take hype and grey market value out of the equation and respectfully I think the Speedmaster line is the one to beat.

I agree that it’s overhyped, but as you said it’s a great watch. Let’s not hold the watch’s popularity against it when we agree that it’s great.

If one wants a chrono and can’t obtain a Daytona, I think the Speedy is a great choice in its own right. I would hesitate to get a Zenith El Primero or Tudor because I think at the end of the day you’d still want the Daytona and the itch won’t be scratched. Don’t think that’s necessarily the case with the Speedy. |

No I said it had a great movement, but many today buy the Daytona hype to wear it, and one thing's for sure today hype sells watches.

Although it’s easier to swallow when the gray daytona price was same as list ROc price. |

The Tudor would be a close second. I've owned two Daytonas, and could never tell what time it was on either of them. The only one (for me) that has decent legibility is the blue face, which unfortunately comes only on the WG-I-could-buy-a-new-car-for-that-price model.
