Buying second hand - tips

Hi All,
I was considering a Rolex and was wondering how can one purchase a good second hand without being cheated, getting a lemon or evern worse a beautiful fake?

Is it feasible or simply better buying new?

Any hints and tips highly appreciated.

Regards,
Zibello

Thank you. Yes, I suspected that is the safe way. Not easy to buy from a private and have a dealer to insepct it sometimes though.

Any other tips?

If you buy the seller first, you don't need to get it inspected.

Try a lot on at an AD. Pick the one you like and look in the classifieds here. Confirm referrals. All will be well.

There are plenty of honest sellers here on TRF. Check the who's who section I personally have dealt with Tony Geha (Justrolexes) also DavidSW,Bodybump & Mosco(Greg ) are others that do lots of business here & have great reputations.

Do your homework on the seller and what piece you want to buy. When you find the right watch being offered by the right seller you're good to go.
Welcome to TRF

Hang around here for a while, you soon will be a lot more informed than you thought you could be.

How much is your peace of mind worth it to you? If it's 10000% then your choices are, buy at an AD or or buy from a person with a solid, verifiable track record. Do your homework to investigate to your satisfaction.

Never consider a reseller with only vague credentials or none. The degree of fraud out there is high enough to warrant that.
