Bob Dylan wins Nobel Prize

I saw him in the early 90's. He played in DeKalb Illinois and only about 150 people showed up. Everybody gathered up near the stage and he took requests. The most memorable concert ever, and a bit sad that he couldn't draw a larger crowd.

Saw him at LSU with The Band back in the day.. One of the best concerts I have ever attended.. Very glad he is getting the recognition he deserves

Yes, finally!! As a Swede and a huge Dylan fan, I've been waiting for them (the committee) to deliver these fabulous news for a looooong time!

Cheers,
Joe

Huge Dylan fan since the sixties. Mr. Tamborine Man is a work of genius. As is Like A Rolling Stone. Dylan is one of the great song writers of the 20th century.

Tänkte att det var du eller, Jocke! Men ärligt talat, att de vågade. Såg precis på SVT när de tillkännagav vem som vunnit. Jublet i rummet har nog aldrig varit så stort/högt någonsin i rummet med journalister (etc).

Sorry guys, will continue in English from now on. In shock here! :)

Cheers,
Joe

Dylan is poetic, not particularly melodic, so it could have been Jocke.

I grew up a huge Dylan fan and continue to love his music but I simply don't get this award. There are so many writers and poets deserving of recognition yet they give it to a singer who hasn't written a song in decades?

If Nobel is trying to dilute the significance of these awards, they are well on their way.

Once you learn the words, he is worthy. I love Springsteen too, but must look at his written lyrics to discern his songs.

Funny you should say that.

I never cared to much about him but after watching this I'm a fan.

This, exactly this.

Here's also a good article: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/fe...-prize-w444799

Dylan's lyrics are like T.S. Elliot's The Wasteland: you either are inspired by it or it does nothing for you.

My wife is highly intelligent and highly educated and does not care for either. I dearly love both writers. So it is definitely not related to a person's intelligence or education. I can't explain it, but some respond and others don't.
