Service Question

I bought an AP royal oak 15300 F series from one of the sellers on here and while the Watch was cosmetically in good shape, I took it to 2 different watchmakers and they confirmed the amplitude was running low. 190-230 and +10-15 seconds consistently at both AD’s. I paid what I consider a premium for the Watch which is frustrating that I may now have to ship it off to Clearwater and throw and extra 1k into the watch. Was my fault seller didn’t confirm service history only said it was running very well and I trusted him. My fear is it could have been never serviced but I don’t know. Is it worth sending in now?

If it was listed as running well I would contact the seller and let them know to see if they might be able to foot the bill or at least a piece of it. Good luck!

My new watch is around +12/day. But if it’s bothering you, send it in.

My 15400 is around +10 a day. Waiting to get close to end of warranty until I adress it. I wan't to limit the times it gets opened...

AP's spec on +/- per day is quite wide. I think +13 or something like that is outer limit of the spec. Can't speak to amplitude but +10-15 is not unusual.

Your amplitude is too low to persist with continuing to wear the watch with any regularity.
Spoke with APSC to confirm my suspicions, and a watchmaker has said 270°-300° is what they'd expect to see for a movement in good condition.
At the level yours is currently, the various pivots and shafts will be getting worn due to lack of lubrication and the old oil/grease & swarf (debris) now acting as a grinding paste.
If you're lucky, it'll have been caught in time and not require replacement parts, just a good clean and fresh lube.
On that basis, maybe a decent contribution from the seller is a reasonable request.

While it's quite normal to be at 10 minus or plus, the amplitude is clearly low.

My newly serviced Bumblebee (same base movement) is at around 315 or so.

Yours definitely sounds like in need of service.

I agree. I’d rather not have mine opened up more than necessary, too. Unfortunately, mine went to Clearwater right after getting the watch and then immediately went back to Clearwater after getting it back. It then went to Le Brassus and +12/day is the best it’s been. I’ve learned to just accept it and enjoy the watch.

Watch was in good condition and not a terrible deal so not the end of the world. I’m just going to send it for service to be safe since I don’t know the history.

But yet you came here to rant about it. It's an F serial, that's not anywhere close to new. If the seller didn't have service history and you bought it knowing that, you assumed the risk. And at the end of the day, $1000 or whatever for an overhaul and new warranty on the watch, isn't a terrible deal.

The rant was because the seller said the watch was running -3 seconds and absolutely no issues even though he didn’t have service history. And went on about how it deserved a premium over another watch that was just sold. I get it. It’s my risk....but when somebody says one thing you get another it’s a different story. I said whatever I’m moving on....my question was more about whether or not to service the watch.

I think the fact that you’re upset is entirely justified. You bought in to the seller and believed him when he persuaded you that this watch deserved a premium.

Moving on is probably the best way forward given that in doing so you will have a bill of £600 - £1000 but hopefully no more. Best to pay it and take it as a life lesson.
