Is it safe to wash my AP?

So I want to give my newly acquired APRO a wash under the tap with a small brush and liquid soap. I do this routine regularly with my Rolex's without any worries and they come out looking new and I want to include the AP in the bathing routine

But I haven't seen any is it safe to wash/pool/beach/ threads for AP (with good reason, since they're expensive) so thought I'd ask since it's better to be safe than sorry. I know it has screw down crown so I'm guessing it's fine but I just want some reassurance from you guys.

No plans to go to the beach with it though! The Hulk is on beach duty.

Washed my Patek 5712, 60 meters WR, many times and it is fine, you can just don't put it under too strong water pressure

I do it all the time. No problem. Just make sure the crown is properly screwed down.

If you were about to do that i guess you would be absolutely safe. On a side note spraying with WristClean before you run tap water would make it shine like new. They also have some soft brushes. it is absolutely safe just do not spray it on straps (well i wouldn't but still it is harmless) (it is fine/safe on the glass and metallic surfaces of the watch).

Not sure about using a brush, surely that may cause scratches along especially polished surfaces on the watch? My best way of washing my watches is just to take a shower with it

I use a soft toothbrush, which I've used successfully on my Rolex which hasn't caused any scratches, it's very soft.

I'm illogically annoyed when I have to take off my watch to shower.

You three who shower w watches on to clean:
1. You do realize that the dirtiest part of your watch is the part(s) that contact your skin, correct?! (Caseback and inside of strap.) You cannot clean those while on your wrist!!
2. I have taken a watch off (several times in the past), and simply washed it in water - you're not really getting much clean! ;) The ONLY correct way to do it is to use a cleaner, and toothbrush. This gets the engravings on caseback, pusher areas and all little crevices, and most importantly the stamps/grooves inside the strap (Audemars Piguet and Royal Oak Offshore lettering). They do not come clean without a toothbrush!
Or maybe I'm just OCD... ;)

+1 thanks for that, I guess I'm ocd too, since I have to use a toothbrush to clean mine...reason for my question.

Be careful with the shower idea. My first patek was a 5712/1a, and it got water inside, crown was in 0 position "all the way down, so it wasn't that. I called Patek and they try to blame it on the steam of the shower. They end up fixing it under warranty. The reason I mention this is just to make you aware of the "steam factor".

No where near a shower in Rolex or AP for me. I am a huge advocate of all things Veraet. Wrist clean spray, brushes and cloths. What's wrong with showing such illustrious pieces some TLC????

I liked the shower idea but this sounds disconcerting. How can then these be resistant to 100m if a shower can harm the watch?

Essentially one should never go into the pool with one.

Depth rating is relative and specific to the pressures exerted on the watch.

A powerful jet of shower water is potentially more harmful to a piece than a dip in the pool.

Well they're argument was the temperature "steam" had an effect on the seal gasket. I said is not like I am taking a Sauna ! You know ,

That's my understanding, that the main issue is the hot water. I wouldn't shower wearing any of my watches, just don't see the point. I clean mine using a soft tooth brush and little soap, which works well without scratching the polished metal surfaces.

i've been using a silicone baby toothbrush for all things shiny! I use a normal soft toothbrush for brushed finishes, but for my AP I stick with the silicone. $5 at any CVS!

buy the package from WristClean. the brush from them is so soft. I use the spray and brush on my rolex every couple weeks. no scratch.

I use the same on my 15400, no swirls from the brush what I have noticed. Only real life scratches

I shower twice a day with my AP and Rolex on. I never take a watch off my wrist. I play tennis, shoot guns, race cars, swim in pools, surf in the ocean, scuba dive, basically live my life how I would and never worry about my watch. Never had an issue. I have my AP serviced every 5 years and my Rolex serviced every 10 years. Wouldn't worry too much about rinsing your AP under the sink water

i use some mild soap/water with a Sonicare ultrasonic toothbrush (with a head just for cleaning obviously)

then use compressed air to remove the excess water

If your bath tub is more than 300m deep then it is not safe for you watch.
