Shared a picture with Serial Number

Hi, I am trying to sell my Rolex and shared a picture of the watch with the warranty card without hiding the serial number. I shared the picture with Bob's Rolex Watches. How concerned should I be? Is there anything I should do to protect myself? Please help!

I think Bob’s should be fine. But I wouldn’t do that anywhere

What's the deal with the serial numbers? Why people hide them or cover them up?

✓To avoid being caught red-handed or get embroiled in a sticky situation in case some0ne else report that watch as stolen
✓Bogus dealers are happy to use the serial numbers for their own fake or replica production watches
✓To protect dealers

Mischief is rampant; there's no knowing what the creative scum will do with the information. I'd trust Bob's as being pretty reliable with this sort of information.

No need to show more than the first four

Thanks for the insight. However, wouldn't someone that reports a watch as stolen need more than the serial number? I mean, I got receipt, a bank statement, warranty card, and box to debunk whatever claim they want to make. Likewise, if a bogus dealer wants to use a serial number, they can just get lucky and put any combination of numbers together and make one up. It will still take due diligence on the buyer to ensure that the watch is correct. The protection of dealers sounds more like a feasible reason, especially if one bought thru grey dealers.

This made me think of people that cover their license tag on their car or motorcycle when trying to sell them. Yet, they drive around all day displaying them.

Well, that one, I can kind of understand. When you put your vehicle on an advertisement in public domain, it makes it easier for someone to target the vehicle (especially if it's a nice vehicle) at your residence. After all, in some states, license plate/owner info is public record.

Now, this reminds me that I have to go cover the VIN number .
