Daytona thoughts

I have had my Daytona since 2014 and wanted it since the late 90’s. It was always the grail for me, but as I age I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the PCL’s and polished lugs, as it has much more of a bling factor while my speedy pro is getting more wrist time. As such, I am thinking of having the PCL’s and lugs brushed. Can folks suggest anyone in the NJ/NY area who can do that? I know a dealer who will do the bracelet but not the lugs.

I am hoping that will do the trick as I have even considered flipping it, but see brushing the links as a good first step as this can always be undone.

Maybe Just get a brushed bracelet to scratch the itch without irreversibly damaging your bracelet

I have the exact same problem and for the time being my Daytona is in the box. I have been considering whether to brush or getting an extra bracelet. I find the extra bracelet to be a bit expensive though. I would keep the case polished and the bracelet brushed.

It’s your watch. If you have no intention of selling have it brushed and wear it proudly.

Nothing wrong with mainlining on the Speedy Pro; it's a great watch. Especially on a good strap.

I wouldn't have the nerve to brush finish a new Daytona, but damn does that look perfect!

That brushed Daytona looks incredible.

I do remember seeing someone polish the center links without also polishing the lugs and that did not look good at all.

I vote for brush it. OP asking for a reputable watchmaker who can help him brush the Daytona in NYC. Anyone?

How about wear the crap out of the current bracelet. Then brush it when it looks too scratched up. If you miss the PCL, order an extra bracelet for the best of both worlds.

Or door C, get the OF straps. :-)

I would opt for a bracelet change than an outright brush job. For those with a 116500 and an Explorer 1, it would be a direct swap right?

I have to admit the all brushed Daytona looks pretty good! I don't think I could do that to mine. I have tried putting a brushed bracelet on mine and it looks horrible with the polished lugs.

The Seller is a flipper who has sold multiple Daytona’s brushed by LAWW and other hard to get References(not brushed).

Brushed looks much better...with the black insert almost has the feel of a new age 6265...pcl suck and probably should only be used on dress models. Who wants something that your shirt can scratch

I would use the miracle of modern aviation and ship my watch to LAWW to make sure it was done right. Why risk a poor refinish by someone else just because they are more geographically convenient?

I don't like the brushed look at all, but if you must than also have the lugs done. Without those brushed it looks way off.
It's easily reversible so go for it

Send Tom (GB-man) a PM I know his first he had the lugs brushed angular like the old school models and on the latest one he’s had it brushed straight like all the modern Rolex’s.

I prefer the latest version but that’s only based on the pictures he’ll be able to give you a better insight into the Vs of them both.

IMO

LAWW has an impeccable reputation for case finishing. I wouldn’t risk an unproven cas finish over a few extra shipping dollars.

I would not brush the links. If the watch is not doing it for you then what would? The value of this pre-owned piece may be as good as it gets for awhile. Look around and see what does it for you. A new SS BLRO on a Jubilee Bracelet might just do the trick.

I have been considering this, but have been slow to act as the watch was a grail for me. And perhaps it was for a time, but I changed. But I have kicked the idea around of perhaps flipping it for a dress watch perhaps a Lang, VC or while not a dress watch perhaps a 321 vintage speedy.

I also though about the BLRO, but also feel it may be too shiny for me as well. I suppose these are good problems to have!
