Consider an AP Chrono? A zero sum swap might be possible. Beautiful brushed band. It may be too much bling in a different way.

Daytona thoughts

You always read about people contemplating brushing PCL’s and lugs, but what about the bezel of an 116520? That’s what I continually think about. Has anyone ever attempted to dull the 116520’s polished tachometer bezel? Photos? Anyone at LAWW reading this... has this been done at your shop? Look at the brushed steel bezel of an Explorer II and imagine that on a Daytona. Thoughts?

That could be an awesome look as well. I think my wife is making a hard push for me to gift it to her therby taking care of my “problem”

Do not sell the Daytona. Like gold dust in this day and age.

Sell it to me. I'm perfectly comfortable with PCL, SJ, PM, even diamonds. I don't care what other people think. And I am certain they don't even notice the watches at this point, except if the apple is a 2 3 or 4 or wifi only or has cellular.

I am hoping that will do the trick as I have even considered flipping it, but see brushing the links as a good first step as this can always be undone.
That is sacrilege! Why not put it on black or brown leather with the clasp? Or pick up a Speedmaster and brush that bracelet?

You can also perhaps buy another Oyster bracelet that fits and leave the original Daytona bracelet as is.

OMG! That is even worse!!! Just get an Explorer II if you want that look. Doing this to a watch that is becoming increasingly collectible is terrible. These are the last of full steel Daytonas Rolex will ever make. Anyone who does this will be sorry when these 6 digit 520s hit 30 grand which I can see happening easily within the next 15 years if not sooner.

Interesting. A "matte" Daytona. I'd never mess with mine simply because I'll probably pass it down and want it to be original but that is a really interesting (and probably great looking) idea.

Not to hijack this thread but can somebody post details on LAWW?

Vanessa retired and LAWW was suggested, but I'm crawling through threads to find out more.

No joy.

Nevermind. A posts led to a post led to a post led to a google.
I found them as L A Watch Works.

Well to give an update I still have not done anything. I am ambivalent about brushing as I’m not comfortable with modifying it. So i am down to 2 ideas 1) trade for a 5 digit Pepsi, or 2) pass it along to my wife (not yet sure if she would wear it as she has a concord I have her 17 years ago as her daily).

Brushed black dial Daytona is the ultimate sports Rolex. I’m to chicken to do it myself. Wish Rolex follows suit and make them like that.

Couple of thoughts here:

1) I think brushed looks great on a 500. Not seen it on a older model which I guess you have (non ceramic?)

2) speedy is a great watch and incredibly versatile. IMO a perfect daily with a variety of straps (I have a few unsealed leather in various colours which are great). Maybe try some straps for the speedy and keep the Daytona for “special” occasions or evenings/weekends?

3) I managed to pick up a WG 116519 for not much more than a good SS was selling for about 18 months ago. Not sure what the situation is now but perhaps you can consider swapping the SS for a WG on a leather and keep a grail of some form in your collection?

4) grails change... get over it ;) I have just shipped off my first ever “nice” watch, the watch I got married in, as part of an exchange. You’ve enjoyed your grail but don’t hold onto iit at all costs if you are not happy now.

I went thru the exact same thing with my 2014 white 116520, plus I found it to be a bit difficult to read after the excitement of having it wore off. I had considered getting it brushed, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, and brushing it still wouldn’t help with the legibility issues. I was on the fence for a while on whether I should flip it for something that I would enjoy wearing more or keep it solely for the sake of an anticipated increase in value. I ended up trading it recently for a 5 digit Pepsi and a new Explorer and haven’t looked back. Both of the new acquisitions suit my lifestyle better than the Daytona, and I’m really getting more enjoyment out of wearing them as well. Good luck in your decision, and update us again when you figure it out.

♛- Yet to be determined, but a white 16520 is on the short list. (I believe that I'll be able to read it better than my old 116520)

I found this amusing.

OP, how about a strap instead? A lot less bling, relatively inexpensive, and gives the watch a whole new look. And then you don't have to brush the case.
