It's a sellers market right now and ADs give priority to buyers that have purchased from them in the past or buyers that they think will purchase more from them in the future.

Just keep checking back at the AD to let them know you are still waiting for the watch to arrive and still want to spend money with them.

Maybe you weren’t really #1 on the list and some VVIP came in and got the first one that the AD received.

I would view the waiting list the same as the queue outside Studio 54 in the 1970's. You think you're in a line, they tell you that it's a line, but then Mick Jagger rolls up and walks right in. Then they come out and pick some people dressed the right way from the back of the line. Then a drug dealer goes in. Then 3 really beautiful girls. At some point it dawns on you that this isn't a line, there is no waiting list.
