Rolex upgrade cycle? When is next version of 118238 Day Date 36 expected + New DD pic
Hi all, didn't see this topic posted. Anyways, just picked up my grail watch, a G serial 2010 Day Date in YG with a black stick dial. Its a real beauty. It's got all the features I want, improved clasp, rehaut, solid links. I wish it had the ceramic pins (the bracelet has a little stretch on the first 2 links, although I'm just being picky).
I can't help but wonder, when will Rolex release a new version of the 118238. What is their cycle like on these items? 10-15 years between changes? What would the new version look like? Surely it would have the ceramic pins, but what else? When should we expect it? Should we ever? Lol. Your thoughts are appreciated! PS. Obligatory pics included. Fit is on my skinny 6" wrist, but I love the fit. It looks a bit larger in photos than in real life. Cheers |

Looks great on you. I think it will happen soon perhaps this year. With the datejust getting the new 32 series movement last year I see it coming soon to the day date. I think they will get the ceramic sleeves then as well. Either way I still love my 18238.

I agree with maiden X2. Yes it looks great on you!! and the new movement should be out next year. Though as we all know Rolex does what Rolex does.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm feeling slightly silly knowing the new one is coming out soon . I sort of paid a little above the going rate but it was hard to find one in the pristine like new condition I was looking for. I also originally intended to get the champagne one, as that's the quintessential Day Date, but when I saw the black in peson, I was sold. The gloss black dial is just perfection. It did just come back from factory service from Rolex in August 2018 so that was a nice selling feature, also the original owner requested unpolished (have no way of confirming if this is the case or not as it is my first Rolex). Also, the lume only lasts about 2 minutes, is this normal (even for a just serviced piece?)
In any case, I am very happy with the watch, feels amazing. Now I see what Rolex quality really means (having come from Omega). definitely am a sucker for gold always have been. I'm a little tanned right now so it really goes well with my skin tone. Here's another for the road (literally) |

Sharp looking piece. These are made to last a lifetime, so whether or not it gets a new caliber soon, enjoy your piece for what is is and it will serve you well for many years to come.

You might have just changed my mind about dial choice on the dd36. Always thought I wanted a white dial but that black stick dial is the best combo I’ve seen on a dd36.
I wouldn’t worry about any upgrades in the future, you are set for life. Enjoy in good health!

Looks awesome congrats. A new one may or may not come out soon but rest assured that the design will not deviate much from what you have on now. A new movement will probably make its way into the watch but the one you have now is plenty robust and you won’t even notice the difference with a new movement. Enjoy!

I'm more concerned about Rolex dropping the 36mm entirely. Shame if they do because 36 IS the DD President to me.

I doubt any 36mm pieces will be dropped. Isn't that the most popular size ? At least for DD & DJ ?
