Talk me out of selling my White 116500

Short version. I bought my Daytona at an AD in March and really like it. That said, I like my VC more for a Chrono and the Daytona has gotten almost no wrist time.

Thinking about selling and getting the AP 15400 in blue.

Pros. I love blue dials. It would be nice to have an AP to diversify my small collection of 3 watches. I like simple and easy to read dials.

Cons. I absolutely hate selling watches. I believe the Daytona is more durable, including the bezel. I probably need a white dial more than another blue one.

I will not expand to more than 3 watches.

Tough call. I find my 116500 easier to wear every day than my Royal Oak. The AP is stunning, but ultimately has had a fraction of the wrist time of my Daytona. It was an itch that had to be scratched, but it’s the AP that is going to be leaving the stable.

I actually went the other way, I bought a VCO not the chrono but couldn't bond with it and soon after I picked up the D500 which I love so I'd sell the VC for the AP myself, I much prefer one of them to have a CE bezel I don't have to worry about.

The Daytona is a beauty in the white dial version,
stronger, durable , service interval is way better,
why sell ? only if you really don't like it and it doesn't sing to you.

Tough one. I would not trade my Daytona for the AP, but mine gets a lot of wrist time. If yours spends every day sitting at home, hard to argue for keeping it.

I like the durability of the ceramic Daytona and I don't think I have the stomach to daily wear an AP. The dings and scratches would kill me, and the service requirements and poor reliability might make me too angry.

But there's no denying the 15400 is a pretty spectacular watch. Good luck.

I understand what you mean about two Chronos, however I don’t feel the AP actually adds anything to your trio of watches. Wouldn’t a dive watch complement your collection better? Having said that, your Daytona is iconic. I personally prefer it over the AP15400 and wouldn’t sell.

I've owned both and they're both incredible. The 116500 is simply a better more versatile fit for life style. The 15400 slipped into "special occasions" territory which is the first sign that it's not getting enough wrist time.

This is good to hear. I also get the AP itch every now and then, and I need posts like these to remind me to stay grounded.

The white Daytona is my favorite watch, I cannot imagine selling it once I am able to get it. Vc for me doesn't have any sharm but that is just me. It is also important to consider that if you sell it, it will be hard to replace at retail. So better be 200% sure before deciding

That Daytona is one of my favorite watches in the entire Rolex catalog and it is SO hard to get. Man I just couldn't do it. I'd suggest giving it another 3-6 months and see if your opinion changes. I just think you'll regret parting with it...

I only buy and keep watches that I use. If it’s not getting much use trade it for something that will be worn. I’m not in the camp that thinks you should want a Daytona “just because.”

Roger, I would strongly urge you to keep the Daytona C. This past summer, I had the opportunity to see a white-dial Daytona C on the wrist of a local Porsche enthusiast. It was the first time seeing this watch in person. Admittedly, it was during the bright summer light of a July noon, but the Daytona C white-dial completely mesmerized me with the brilliance and intensity of a celestial body, lol. I simply couldn't get over how truly stunning the watch is. I think you will regret letting yours go. Regards, -Rick.

Don’t base your watches off what you “need” ... get what you love... go try a few APs on. If you fall in love sell the Daytona and pick one up! If your not wearing/loving the Daytona what’s the point?

I hate to admit this, sold my white ceramic for a “profit “ and bought one a year later for over £1k more.... keep the Daytona. It’s a great watch even if you don’t give it enough wrist time. If you really ( and I mean really) want an APRO get the ultra thin steel model.
I’ve had both the original and the “newer” version and genuinely regret getting shot of the 39mm ultra thin. It’s a pain in the arse to get serviced but much, much better than the 41 my version. If I get into my ultra thin service experience on this forum either AP or the forum will shut me down.

For as much as you gloated over finding this Daytona as a walk-in customer, this is rather disappointing to read. Your punishment should be having to hold onto it until all of us finally get ours from our ADs.

Joking aside, you should get what you want. Holding onto a Daytona just because it's a Daytona isn't a good reason to own a watch.

A few thoughts. In my view, the Vacheron Overseas Chrono is nicer than the Daytona and there is a fair amount of daylight between the two. The Daytona is great, but the VC is even nicer to me.

I am concerned - and somewhat swayed - by the scratch magnet issues with the AP. The 39 mm is not in play for me, as I would really miss the second hand.

I love the BLNR and the only thing that might - maybe - make me part with it would be a BLRO.

Finally, the fact that the Daytona is in my name (in reality, no one’s name on the card yet) is a reason to keep it for me. Although I know this is of no value to most.

Tough call Roger. Both great watches. If you’re worried about having another blue dial, take a look at the white or black dial 15400. They’re all beautiful.

It seems as if your clear preference for the chrono is the VC, so if you're not willing to expand past your 3 (and you want the AP), moving the Daytona is really you're only choice. (Assuming you won't consider getting rid of the BLNR).

However, having said that, I don't think I would give up a Daytona in today's climate. Just my two cents.

You might regret it, but it sounds like you already don't care much for the Daytona so it seems like a wash.

At the end of the day, if the Daytona is not getting any wrist time now then it’s likely you won’t really miss it if it’s gone because you have the VC. You’d rather move the watch onto someone else who wants one and then you can concentrate on getting the one you want. Maybe the AP 15450? It’s 37mm but wears abit closer to a 40mm Rolex. Either way Roger, good luck, hope you get the outcome which is best!

Agree! Love that model.

But, another consideration in favor of the status quo is the higher service cost for AP models.

I would never, ever consider doing what you are considering, but that doesn't matter. What matters is what YOU prefer, and you prefer the VC and the AP.

Also, the comments about not being able to source a Daytona once you come to your senses, er, um, I mean if you miss it -- you're going to get market price for yours, so you can always replace it at market (plus the sell-buy spread).
