My 16610 was set to GMT time 3 weeks ago and it gained 2 secs in the first 24 hours and is still just +2-3 secs after 3 weeks! Bloody amazing accuracy! Really impressive. Not obsessive more curious about accuracy and when i check its still right on +2-3. So according to Padi's post that is above 99.99% accuracy...what else in this world produces that!

Many thanks

Honestly, the more I learn about mechanical watches the less concerned I am about daily accuracy measured in seconds. There are 86,400 seconds in a day (is my math right?) and 5 or 10 seconds lost or gained in a day doesn't bother me. I do keep an eye on some of my older watches as any major change can indicate the need for service. If I really needed an accurate watch, I'd buy a 20€ quartz Swatch!!

I have just measured my air-king again for accuracy: it has lost 1 second in the last 22.5 hours; this equates to 99.9988% accuracy. I did consider doing a graph on excel and keeping a record of my watch's time keeping.... does that sound weird?

All I have now is my Speedmaster Pro, and that is running about +1.5 sec a day. My Rolex AK ran about the same, my DJ 1603 was a bit faster.

Forget all this accuracy checking crap most Rolex watches are at the maxium spec 99.994% accurate out of the box. Just cannot see any point of worring over a couple of seconds either way.Its far better to wear and enjoy your watch in the best of health now thats far more important. Its simple no mechanical watch will give 100% perfect accuracy close yes but perfect no.

4130 runs maybe 1 sec a week off. LV runs +2 secs per day, same with the 16613, Milgauss maybe -1 sec per week.

This is going to sound like I am making it up, but my new Explorer 1 is running at -.5 seconds per week. I set it bi-monthly to the Colorado time standard.

Had it since mid-April, so not sure if I am through break- in period yet. Probably will fluctuate moving forward, but for now I COULD NOT be happier with the movement!

My 3.5 year old Sub 16610 has been + 5-6 seconds per day since day one. That is the true definition of accuracy - no variation. Don't check your watch daily - check it weekly or monthly.

Newby question Ugh!

How do you measure +/- seconds per day? What is your reference? How do you synch the times?

Welcome to mechanical watches. Considering all of the moving parts in a movement, it's amazing that they are as acurate as they are. If you need "perfect", consider a quartz.

My new, 3 months old, Daytona is about -1.5 seconds a day. I usually keep it in a winder but was recently advised to store it face up in the evening when i take it off. I was told in this position the watch should gain a second or so.

My submariner is 4 years old and has never been serviced. It is gaining +20 secs in 24 hours and the chaps at Rolex in Dubai say that up to 4 mins a day is quite acceptable?
I asked if servicing it would make a difference and they said probably wouldn't make a difference. I am reluctant to spend approx $400 on a service and not get better accuracy. My Tag Carrera keeps much better time for half the price. Somehow I can't ignore that we are paying all this money for ultimately a mediocre product.

Hello. I'm new to the world of Rolex! What is a good reference for watch accuracy? I referred to my MacBook's automatic date & time which pings a server and supposedly accounts for internet traffic. That said, my GMTII 16710 was off by over a minute. Note that I wound it, set it down horizontally, and didn't wear it yesterday.

Also, as far as manually winding it and the "40" rotations of the crown, should the crown come to a stop at the end of those windings, or does it just not do anything to the movement after its fully wound? I carefully wound many times while feeling for any resistance. and eventually stopped when I felt that I wound enough.

Thanks.

SS Daytona 116520: +1 sec/day

SS Subc date: +2 sec/day

Quite happy with that! In terms of quality, Rolex is clearly unmatched!

You cannot over wind there is in the mainspring barrel a mechanism that when the mainspring is fully wound it just slips in the spring barrel .Now when manually winding you might feel slight resistance when fully wound 40 full crown turns clockwise but the winding crown will keep turning. But the mechanism in the spring barrel stops the mainspring from being over wound. Now while on your wrist if you are moving the auto winding pendulum is swinging constantly by gravity winding the mainspring. But just like being manually wound once the mainspring is fully wound it just slips in the barrel.
