Trips vs Watches

I really love watches but doing the math I have probably spent around 20x more money in trips than watches since both became part of my life in early nineties. How about you? Do you invest more in watches or trips?

Both...

Hard to say over a lifetime I would think it is close.

I didn’t vote.

Both are very enjoyable and squarely dictated by discretionary income.

Sorry. I assumed you voted trips because the poll had 2 votes when you posted and one was mine.

I'd have voted 'both' as well even having spent much more on trips, so it's out of the options on purpose to see which one will win.

Both.

But the truth is, I don’t like trips. I don’t like being away.

I’m always uncomfortable and looking forward to going home. I like my home, and my day to day, my routine. I like my little home gym, and my bed and my bathroom. I like the local spots we go to, and I like the area I live in. I like waking my dogs and doing my thing.

I’m realizing more than ever, after enough time, that I really do like my daily grind. No matter how nice, or how exotic, I’m a very simple person.

I like my stuff. I could honestly do with less. But I like it just the way it is. Going forward, it’ll be less money spent on trips.

More in savings and a little charity I’d like to set up.

In all honesty my wife and I don't like to travel. We go to Canada two or three times a year and Hawaii every 10 or so years. Other than that, we like being local. So with that said, money for watches!!

A watch is an intimate object that brings pleasure. I like watches.

A trip, whether with family or friends, brings experiences and memories. I love traveling.

I spend way more on trips. It's not even close.

But, I would like to spend more on watches. Can't have it all, though. ;-)

Wish I could do the same buddy. Sometimes I consider travelling less and obviously think about putting the money towards watches but when I dare to say something like that the wife strongly disapproves and I don't like to beg for sex.

But TBH I don't need her approval or not as we're on the same page. We both love travelling.

If travel is a love for you guys, it's definitely worth more than watches on the wrist.

Probably the same here. No idea how much I’ve spent on travel over the years.

Love watches and can never see myself having enough of them but traveling alone with my wife, or with family, specially with my grandchildren or with friends is something we find priceless.

I’ve spent more on travel but not by far. I’m fortunate to be able to afford both.

About $12K on trips per year since joining TRF, and that might be low. If converted solely to watches, I would have a Platinum DD at this point and then some.

Hands down trips for me. I have to have one Caribbean trip scheduled constantly for me to function properly day to day. Seriously, I went 3 months without one scheduled and I was grumpy and miserable until we booked one. Nothing like that beautiful blue green water.

We lean more toward trips, my wife also likes to travel. Our stressful jobs, terrible weather equate to vacation being mandatory for us. They seems to be also a good time for my wife and I to connect. For me, experiences out weigh material things.
