Bubbleback Balance Staff

Hello all:

Pardon me if this should go under the Watchtech section: I have a 2940 Bubbleback (purchased back in 1995) with a broken balance staff which has been with my CW21 watchmaker for a couple years now. Does anyone have a recommendation for a custom replacement?

There were 3 different balance staffs for the cal. 630 NA - we bought a few different “new” replacements - non worked - he sent the watch to a craftsman who custom makes them but it’s been about a year and nothing yet.

This cannot be a singular issue. I appreciate any advice.

I've bought a couple of watches with broken balance staffs. I sent them to watchmakers for repair, and they fabricated them as part of the job. The cost was something in the $100-$150 range on top of the regular service charge. I think it's something that a professionally trained watchmaker can do routinely. So if you can find a cheap replacement, that's great, but I wouldn't wait years and years trying to save $150.

Thanks Dan. I’ll ask him again. I am also looking for a complete balance.

After a couple of years, it might be worth sending the watch to someone else. Apparently your watchmaker doesn't want to make the staff.
