Phillip noted that it hadn’t been previously serviced & all original except the case was recut or “Polished” as it has been recently rebranded.

Needless to say I am very pleased with Phillip. Thank you JP & Linesiders for your help with the process.
Lovely watch I would wear all day. Phillip is the man.

Turned out perfect just as all of Phillips work. I just had my 3592 serviced w him recently and he matched the lume on the hands perfectly (under UV light they match the dial 100%). The older lume was cracking on them along w the Chrono hand having a dull grey look from age. I’m sending him the 116710 sometime later this year for basic service next.

Just curious, what is a 3592?

Fitment aside, I'd guess that this applies equally to the Rolex T19, acrylic and solvents do not generally play nice. I have a D39 on a GMT, so far so good, but my thought was that I'd rather put newer acrylic on my watch than 40+ year old acrylic. Having been an avid aquarist in my youth, I can attest that the stuff does not age gracefully.

Ironically, I also have a NOS T19 sitting in a box, but have left it there for the reasons above, but this thread has me thinking maybe I should throw it on my 94010.

I’m not sure I trust the Rolex crystals.

It’s all good, the joy of owning something old is all.

This is correct. Issues with solvents like alcohol apply equally to all acrylic crystals.

Watch is back w/True Dome now - I now have experience with both original Rolex T19 and 4 truedomes. 1 original V1 & 3 V2’s.

The only one that failed was the Rolex T19, it lasted a little over 2 weeks. I just think old acrylic isn’t as structurally as sound as new plastic. I was warned by someone who’s opinion I value greatly - that old acrylic is a gamble.

I’ll stick with Truedome… I feel very lucky to have noticed the issue immediately - nothing was damaged thank god.

Plexi looks great. I am on the originals for both my 9411s, with cyclops, so I'd quite like to try one, but the Truedome website isn't working for me. Anyone else have the same issue? Or a working link?

The watch is a stunner!

Why is the lume so light in color? I assumed tritium lume always turns yellow and darker with age. I'm learning, so forgive my noob-ness

Excuse my noobness as I'm still learning. Why does the lume look so white still? I thought tritium lume always darkened with age.

Um, sorry about the triple post everyone, hahaha. I guess because im such a new member I didn't realize my posts were being audited by moderators prior to showing up in a thread so I though they were posting. Oops.

Depends on the lume.

Word is it also depends on how much sun or safe it has seen.

5513 Maxis Mk1 tnd to remain relatively whiteish, that I can assure you.

I don't think the OP watch lume is white, it has definitely yellowed noticeably IMO.

Lume is fairly creamy. Different Lume materials over the years have different response to moisture, safe time, and sun, so there is a lot of divergence.

I can show you original plots from 19612 that are very white and you only see discoloration under magnification, and other lumes that are almost like clay.

My lume is definitely on the creamy side, it’s only an 82… it’s hard to capture lume color in photos though. Lighting & camera choice changes the look of the lume a lot.

There are some dial types that age differently than others, as stated above where/how it was stored changes the look. I believe a lot of the super dark minty creamy watches you see would most likely have been kept in the dark. I have wondered what turns some dial lume to the super dark “pumpkin” color. I believe I have noticed it on 16800’s a few times.

The reason I jumped on this one so hard was the dial condition. The hands aren’t in the the best condition but they are original.

I'd be interested in the answer to the 'pumpkin' conundrum. My black dial 9411 ha pretty yellow/orange lume and it looks great. My blue, on the other hand (same age, a few serial numbers apart, same use, etc.) hasn't aged the same way.

If you black looks like it sat in a safe I’m going to bet that’s the answer. Most of the watches I see that are really dark look like they are almost NOS, possibly sat in a safe. I could be wrong.

Mine are certainly very well used (most likely military diving), with heavy dial patina (possibly moisture). That doesn't of course necessarily mean they've seen a lot of light in their 46yrs, especially in their later life. Will grab a photo or start my own thread in the coming days.
