Deepfake technology and its impacts.
We are reaching a time when Deepfake technology will be largely used on films, but if this technology evolves and becomes available in larger scale, not only used in the entertainment industry, I wonder if some would will see it as an instrument to offend others, commit fraud or even try to forge criminal evidence. Not sure if the whole world would be really prepared for that. Thoughts?

I think it's incredibly dangerous and impossible to stop. Video or audio evidence will be called into question. Any celebrity or politician in a compromising audio clip or video clip? Deepfake. It'll be more and more difficult to discern reality from fantasy.
But it's going to become more and more prevalent. No way to stop it, so everyone will just need to adapt. |

It is worrying indeed. It can also make incredibly funny videos though.

One day it will make Rolex images and videos to fool unwary buyers on 3rd party platforms.

Has it not already been used to spread fake political statements?
Although these days it would be impossible to determine satire from the real thing

Doesn’t that already happens with regular photographs? Unscrupulous sellers simply uploading other people’s pictures copied off the net. Don’t really need deep fake technology for that, it’s already happening. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Scammers do steal photos and do attempt scams with them. That won’t change. But deep fakes will make the process easier. Today, when a prospective buyer asks for additional pictures from a scammer using stolen photos, like an angle that didn’t exist in the original photo’s, the scammer is thwarted. Same as when a Mod here does a spot check with the time and date set to a particular date/time, and with the watch set upon a paper with one’s username printed. With a deep fake, the scammer will have a 3-D digital object that is a virtual watch, box, papers, cards, etc. It can be rendered to do anything a prospective buyer asks. It’ll be impossible to detect for even a smart buyer. The rise of escrow outfits would be a predictable outgrowth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Another issue with deepfakes I read will be porn. Ability to create images or videos with who ever you want. |

How about the ability to manufacture evidence. The line between real and fake has become so narrow.

Whatever can be misused will be misused.
Just look around. There has never been a time in the history of homo sapiens when this has not been true. Deceit and chicanery even abound in the animal kingdom. It is the way of life itself.

There is hardly an image on the Rolex site, that is of a real, new watch.
