Rolex Commando
What do you guys think of the Commando? I understand there are 2 variants : 1 with a Commando lettering in the dial, the other without. Here's the latter with very nice patina. I like it despite the small 34mm size and I read it was only made in 1972. Quite rare and should be as collectible (if not more) than the explorer?

Do you have any paper work on this? These - IMO - are very cool and rare. Would love one someday (not today ;) ).
What is the reference # between the lugs and first 3 of serial

Whoa, looks great. Don't see these often. This is a 6429 right? Manual-wind and only for the US market?

Sorry, it's not mine
It's a friend's watch. I just wanted to share, with his permission of course! Yes, it's the ref. 6429. Size is a bit small at 34mm and is manual wind. Yes, it's a very attractive watch and what I was told, very rare. Anyone know the price on these nowadays? $10k-ish?

the allusive Commando Eh? The only Rolex cheaper than mine offered in 1972. who would've thought right? was around $120 I believe in 1972 and now they're upwards of $20k if not more, I haven't seen one on the market in a few years. not a very well known watch, but they're highly sought after by those in the know. as for it being US only, I heard a lot of them were bought by soldiers serving in Vietnam. gave them the Explorer look, at a very affordable price. how did you come across this? what are they asking if you don't mind me asking? the time to buy is when you see it, watches like these don't last long.
You have one very lucky friend, I'd recommend he take it to an appraiser authorized by his insurance company to get it insured, as the value is a lot more than $10k. Last edited by andromeda160; 10 June 2015 at 12:44 AM.. Reason: saw it's your friends |
