Need answer please ...!!

I know its a silly question from a pens collector :-(
But would like to know the difference between M, F & B in Fountain Pens (what does these letters means?).

Thanks for your great help.

There are many sizes when it comes to Nibs. And sizes vary depending on where the Fountain pen and Nib were manufactured. A Nib made in Japan will make a smaller(narrower)/width line when writing compared to FP's made in Europe. Ken posted a very good Website which will assist you in gauging what Nib and corresponding line will look like with Sailor FPs.....

Some other sizes include the smaller sizes; XF/EF(extra-fine), Accountant(smaller yet) and Needle Nibs(the smallest). There are also other larger Nib sizes; Oblique, Music and Calligraphy. Then you also have flexible nibs which will produced varying size lines(up and down strokes or side to side)when you write.....

It's always a good idea that before you buy online(if you do choose to take this route) find a local Pen store which carries a wide selection of FP brands and Nibs. Practice with them to see which ones feel good in your hands and write the way you prefer.....

Take it easy.....Leo

Take care and continue enjoying the using of Fountain Pens...they are the best method for writing...only equaled with using a very good high, quality mechanical drafting pencil!!!

Be good.....Leo

I agree and add to Leo's suggestion of actually trying all sorts of nibs. I actually only recently did this at a pen show and ended up with something that writes the way I actually like and enjoy that I've been using the new fp for weeks now.

+1 to Leo and SUBversive......not all nibs write the same even if they are same size. Think about how you write and you will use it and then try different nibs to see what works.

I have two daily pens, one is japenese EF for editing docs, heavy notetaking, second is MB med ground down to match a Waterman medium for all other needs.

That is one way to really upset you local store. I hate it when people come in and put their sticky fingers all over my stock and then say that they are going to buy online. THAT SUCKS
