If money is no object, it's personal preference and there's a wide verity of choice.

If you can get SS at retail, then go for it. However, I'd rather by a pre-loved PM piece than pay those ridiculous premiums.

I acquired both a D500C and a 619LN this year.
I love, love, love my SS but once I put on the WG I just cant take it off.
The heft, luster and sunburst dial are just amazing.
The lume of the hands reflects on the white dial -- has a different look than on the grey dial.
Also - ditto the fact that no-one knows but me...
If some asks (rarely) - I tell them it is a "bolex" I bought in the far east.

SS are just a little boring compared to the PM's.
If you have a flexible RSC and/or watchmaker just invest 1K every year for a new dial and strap and you can have a gaziliion different combo's and a "new"watch every time ! So much fun.
Go funky and try out this refreshing combo .....

personal preference and above is mine from quite an extensive go round with these watches in WG YG RG and Platinum had them all

Do you left your chronograph running 24/7?

Isn't it a strange old thing that even the celebrities love to be seen wearing the SS Daytona, it is the "in" watch to have and yet arguably that PM Daytona is a fabulous watch.

The PM first Ceramic Dial and the only one of that Colour of Configuration. I have an SS however got a chance to wear the PM Daytona the other week and if I had a choice (and more importantly the money) without a doubt I would wear the PM Platinum any day of the week.

I didn't realize how different they are, other than the materials. Thanks for sharing.

I just purchased a SS Daytona 16520 and had been seriously looking at the Gold and White gold versions which are more readily available and surprisingly less expensive. I have to say that the white gold is very nice and had heft and to my absolute surprise, the all gold version was a stunning piece on a brown strap but I just felt that for my daily or regular use, the Gold was a specialty piece I wouldn't wear enough and the white gold had the dial with the Roman numerals which I dont find as attractive. I would definitely buy a gold Daytona as a second piece. This might not apply to the newer models, but the rose gold 116500 is pretty stunning (if not very expensive)

SS Daytona Vs. PM Daytona

I have SS; but if I could have started with a PM version, I would definitely go WG with blue dial. I’ve considered adding it; but with only one Rolex at this point, my PM will probably be a DD40
