Yes. The warranty card has to be submitted when you send it in for service.

I took my SD43 in for service without the card to the same salesperson I bought it from (and with whom I've worked with exclusively since 2007). I figured she knew I bought it from her and the SD43 hasn't been out longer than 5 years so there's no question in terms of the warranty expiring...

She said that Rolex will not provide warranty work without the card and that she had to actually send it in physically.

Does your friend carry around the warranty card in his wallet and look at it all the time? The last time I looked at my warranty cards was during the time of purchase at the AD boutique. Odd

I am considering buying my son a nice watch in a few years when he hits 21 - I would have definitely have had his name not mine on the card, but that seems a mute point now the new style warranty cards have been released.

I was told once that if the person you're buying it for is not present your name has to go on the card. Perhaps it was just that particular A.D but it sounds more of a regulation.

As has been said though, it isn't a Grey Market Watch if it has somebody elses name on the card, it is a used watch/secondary market product.

If he doesn't like looking at a name, cut one of the many label type products into a square that covers it and stick it on. That likely would not damage or deface the original surface.
yup

I don't think it matters. The new cards do not even bother with an owners name anymore as the warranties are transferable and follow the watch only.

My opinion; I think the modification automatically makes the warranty void.

Since the friend of the family bought at a very good price, have him send the watch in for a routine service. Don’t send the card - burn it.

When the service is done, he will get a new 2-yr warranty card with no name on it (which has been the standard practice for past 30+ years).

I have a watch with someone else's name engraved on the case back and the year 1963.

I'm cool with that.

Is the guy who wants the name removed from his warranty card plan on wearing it on a lanyard around his neck?

I wasn’t aware of that, but another member has posted a similar comment about AD’s only putting the name of the person present in the stores name on the card so it’s probably a ‘Rolex’ thing not the individual AD just being awkward.

Cheers

If someone's name is on the card, it was sold at an AD to that individual. That individual then sold it to a Grey. How does the Grey know for certain it was not worn? Stickers can be replaced by a Grey or anyone.

Just to clarify - there are exceptions. All the grey sellers who offer BNIB + a blank card can put your name on it. Many listings each year just on TRF sold that way.

I believe it was purchased for the grey.
