One reason why I won't buy a Rolex....

.....with a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet personally, It reminds me of a seiko watch to much . I know Rolex came out first with the fluted and jubilee bracelet and copying is a form of flattery. I was at a AD last week looking to see what watch I wanted and told him this...he agreed with me. I know many will not agree with this, but that's ok...

Of course he did, he's a salesman, you could have told him the earth was flat and the moon is made of cheese and he'd agree.

As for not buying a Date Just because of a cheap look-a-like, well the same could probably said for all Rolex watches. There are plenty of valid reasons why people don't buy certain watches, this one just seems a bit silly to me.

You are giving the wrong credit to who owns the look. All due respect, the Seiko looks like a cheap cubic zirconia compared to a genuine Rolex DJ. There is a lot of cheap dive watches that look like a Rolex Sub from 5 feet away.

I have the same watch. Now it has a leather strap. I bought it before I could afford a Rolex but make no mistake the Seiko doesn’t come close to being a Rolex. It’s a fine watch for those who want the Rolex look but don’t want to spend the money.

I say buy it and put on a leather or exotic skin strap and you have a classic of a lifetime.

Everyone has their reasons, and everyone including you are/is entitled to those reasons. Some people will disagree which is ok, and sadly some people may even leave a disrespectful reply. Just buy whatever makes you happy because it is you who is wearing the watch.

Many members here disagree with me because I feel a submariner really is just a submariner, and I like the DJ much better and I think the DJ is a nicer watch. 99% of those who disagree respect my opinion and my freedom to like the DJ more than the sub. There is still those 2 or 3 members who feel that it is okay to make a rude comment because they feel their subs are superior to my DJ's. So, even though I doubt anyone will be disrespectful and post something critical of your decision and opinions, just ignore them if they do and continue to enjoy TRF because 99.99% of the members are awesome watch lovers, and we can all learn from each other by sharing what we know and love about watches.

I was looking around the mall the other day, looking to try on a Seiko turtle.

As I walked by lots of designer watches, it was crazy how many of them copy Rolex in some way.

I even saw one with a dial like the dial from the JC DeepSea SeaDweller

I also saw a watch that looked very much like a Panerai.

I respect your opinion, but honestly, a lot of other watches try to copy Rolex and other brands.

The flute bezel was originally introduced and used to provide resistance for the watch maker to screw the watch together holding the crystal in place to create the water tight seal. It is very similar to the “coin edge” design visible and used to secure case backs in place today.

I think you have your history a little mixed up.
Rolex started with a coin edge bezel, not fluted.
They then introduced smooth bezels and milled bezels as early as the 30's.
The Datejust was introduced with a coin edge bezel in 1945.
I believe the fluted bezel was not used on the Datejust until 1956 when they first produced the Day-Date as well.
So they used a smooth bezel for 2 decades before the fluted bezel was introduced.
Which would indicate that it was only decorative by that time.
