Haven’t been around as long as OP or many others but I agree. I just skip over a lot of threads. Many are repetitive, but every so often there are good ones. Like anything ups and downs it’s easy to skip over trash or contribute.

He wanted to rant so be it, we have all been there.

I don’t post as much as I used to do, but that is not TRF’s fault. My interest in watches has declined.

for me it helps that im not really chasing anything at the moment. Still love watches but im not stressing out about finding anything. Thats helps for sure as i can sit back and enjoy. id probably not be not as into watches today if i was still trying to find a bunch of watches as it would be pretty frustrating.

Paul got into a major argument on the RM picture thread. I guess it went too far for the mods.

I don’t remember seeing a member by the name of Thomas Wentworth, but I just lol’d. That totally seems like an alias that BC would come up with.

And let’s not forget about ref1655.

Love him or hate him, BC was a funny guy and his threads were refreshing and much more interesting than the typical “Is it safe” threads that we see all too often.

There is a reason why he has been banned on multiple forums.

I think people have gotten a lot ruder not just on here but in all forums as the years go on.

Looking back to say pre-2010 threads everyone seemed to get on and on the whole was a civil place to be.

Today people enjoy one-upping each other, being rude (while remaining within the rules - maybe they see this as a challenge), using internet “memes” etc. etc.

Quite sad but still a valuable resource and better way to burn up half an hour than the social media sewer.

There are a many threads, posts and perspectives I don’t necessarily agree with - or subscribe to - mostly I don’t reply — and if I do - I always try to be respectful and understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinions - and if someone disagrees with me - that is totally fine.

I totally get your point though.

This is a forum (and a hobby)that is built on individual opinions and perspectives and that’s all.

The entire watch market is doing backwards cheers flips right now - and it has many stirred up - just take a step back - be a little more selective and don’t hone in on any negativity. That’s what I do.

I mean cmon...my wife has disagreed with just about everything I’ve said since I got in the car with her!!! Maybe I’m just numb to it.

I agree....perhaps its a sign of the times we live in. My wife's grandson asked me if its as bad today as 1968 and i told him not even close....68 was far worse.
so it can get worse but its pretty darn bad out there today.
We are living in a semi "cold civil war" now.....mass shooting weekly....road rage....standing in grocery store line rage even at Kroger.....it like everybody is mad as hell these days.

In January, as a New Years resolution,I took a month off. No TRF. I thought I was starting to spend too much of my free time reading the forum. I thought it and my wife and kids knew it. I found myself taking a quick glance at dinner and other inappropriate times when I should have been in the “now” with friends and family. So I took a month off and a big step back. And I survived. I read fewer threads, respond less, and frankly separate this place from the real world. This is a great site. I can honestly say I’ve made friends here but it should not be impacting your happiness. Give yourself a timeout. It works wonders.

I have also realized, from reading this thread, that I do think it might be time for another dog thread. You can never have too many of those.

I used to love TRF, just like I used to love Facebook...

If you don't like the flavor of the posts lately, why not come up with interesting discussions or reflections that will enhance the Forum, rather than threads denigrating the membership (TRF) as a whole.

Perfectly stated... if we want change then be the change.

Did someone say Dog...

God forbid someone mentions that they like Star Trek. If you haven’t lost faith in our species yet, this group will do it for you.
When I first got into Game of Thrones I went on their forum and it was the same, just vitriolic attacks and they even had certain threads specially designed for people to vent. The problem there with discussions/arguments is that they never end because, like with politics, there is so much text and history that any argument can be supported and cited with backup evidence so it just escalates and escalates... and this is all in a make-believe world!

I posted once that I don't understand all the hate for The Last Jedi. The insults lasted for hours.

One dude actually went into my page and said I was a pretty boy, suggested that I shave my chest hair, and wear boxer briefs. He continued on to say that he is certain my wife wants a more manly man, and that he is certain she is engaging sexually with other dudes because I can't possibly satisfy her.

He was a lot less polite than I am being in my explanation.

Then there was a few dozen other people literally analyzing every last detail of The Last Jedi and why it was a horrible movie and everyone involved in making it should be burned alive.

I kid you not.

This place (TRF) has people posting on what they are interested in. How their watches will hold up in value, increase or decrease. And how people can get the hard to get watches. And the AD that treated them rudely.

I think this site is merely a reflection of society and our species as a whole. Just like every other site/social media/ or forum out there. The people here have an affinity for watches.

But it is quite simply a gathering of people. For TRF specifically it is a gathering of people that like watches.

The interests of people change as the times change. This is a sociological certainty. We here, are merely a reflection of that.

And because of the mods and many of the members, everyone here tends to be super duper polite and respectful.

Will people argue and insult. Of course, that is what our species does. But because this place is moderated so well, TRF tends to be extremely courteous.

Might as well be complaining that the sky is blue, the grass is green, and water is wet.
