Could I ask opinions on trading this piece? My Speedy pro?

Greetings all,

I am the proud owner of a Speedy Pro which I enjoy very much... however I am considering trading or selling this baby in order to help fund a Rolex purchase, I'd like to get either an SD or Sub TT Blue face... so I ask you all what is your opinion?
Is it worth waiting longer and keeping my Moon watch? I like it a lot but I think I would be happier with my first Rolex... I'm almost ready to buy a Sub Date but if I want a pricier Rolex I'm going to have to sell or trade towards it with my Omega.
Any opinions appreciated.

Well, Ren, what you're going to get is a lot of personal opinions here.

Let me start by recommending that you try on both the SD and the Sub Date. One of them will sing to you. That's the one you want.

Now as for personal opinion, I would go with the Sub. I personally don't like the small date window on the SD. I much prefer the cyclops on the Sub Date. In my view, the cyclops is a defining trademark of the Rolex brand. And unless you are a serious diver who is going to free dive to 1000 m (which will most likely be your last dive), there is no need for a watch with the depth rating of an SD. It's a great marketing angle, but IMO otherwise worthless.

As you can probably tell, I trade alot and I mean alot of watches. LOL!! But I really only do things that are smart money wise. I am lucky at times, but I don't think that you can get what that watch is really worth in trade or sale.

If you can get at or above market value for your moon watch, I say go get 'em.

I am not the type to get to sentimental about these things, they are just jewelery, no matter what some may say. If it was a gift or marked some special occasion that is something different. But for me, if I want something different, I pursue it. Life is too damn short not to be happy if you can.

If you can get the 16610 and keep the moon, I would vote to do that. Good luck with your decision, hope I helped some.

Decisions... decisions...

Thanx for the input guys!

RockRolex,
The SD does seem less a functional thing and rather a show piece, I don't even swim vey well so deep diving is out of the question... unless I'm drowning, then I won't be too concerned abut my watch being able to survive the trip!

Dman,
I guess if I'm serious about trading my Speedy I could always post right here on TRF and see if someone is interested in a deal...we'll have to see...

JJ,
Damn man now I'm drooling all over the keyboard, the blue on that face is just so beautiful... have to make up my mind I guess!

I think the most important issue has been posted: wear them both and you will fall in love with one of them. To me, it was a 2T Black dial sub; i just love the black/gold/steel combination; looks great even with everything! But, it all comes back to what YOU like.

Well my opinion is go with the SS Sub or the SD and keep your Omega. Please don't get me wrong I LOVE the TT Subs, but I'd have a hard time paying $7,100 for a hollow braclet of 18kt gold, if the bracelet were solid I still think the price to be alot but at least its solid.Like everyone says buy what makes you smile. The speedy pro has never been my style but were all diffrent. Put it up F/S and see what happens and remember always be extra careful when trading.

I own all of the watches you are talking about here. If I could have just one, I would go with the SS Sub Date. It's the icon. It will be the first and last Rolex you ever own, even if you own many in between.

I don't wear my TT Blue Sub too often. It's too common and it attracts too much attention. I wear at least one of my four Speedies on a regular basis, but I usually put on one of the vintage Speedies when I do because I like the patina.

I am wearing my SD tonight. I bought it when I retired my original Sub for diving. I still wear the Sub though. It's more comfortable with a suit than the SD, which sits higher off my wrist.

I am sure you will find the right watch for you. Good luck!

Couldn't have said it better myself, David. The ULTIMATE Rolex would just have to be the 16610.

Ren, keep in mind that if you post here, you're subject to the cut and thrust of on-line watch trading and for the seller, the return usually sucks. Particularly because you're in T'ronna and the larger watch buying public is south of the 49th, who have a flooded market and the strong US dollar.

If you're going to sell the Speedy, do it privately via the TO Star or the Globe and Mail. It may take longer to move it, but you'll get a Canadian price for your watch, which will be closer to what you paid for it (thanks to our insanely high import duties). I just sold my TAG Kirium via the newspaper here in Ottawa and I got almost 50% of what I paid for it.... six years ago!!

To me, a TT Sub is a silly watch (no offence). I don't see how a 'tool' watch can be TT or YG for that matter. The 16610 is the way to go, particularly if you can get an LV. Good luck!
