It's a great idea. I think vintage DJ's are the most undervalued references available today. Just do your homework. Look at a lot of examples i.e. age, dials, with or without bracelet. Find the combination you love and then hunt for one in the best shape at the best price. Good luck and always remember "buy the seller".

Not a bad idea. Besides being small enough to fit under the cuffs it is a lot lighter for all day use than a sports watch on a bracelet.

That's exactly the look I'm going after!
I'm looking for a white dial Datejust or Airking (I would prefer the Airking) head only (to keep the cost down$. |

btw, i'm not sure i'd call any rolex a 'beater.' you're still talking about a watch that costs four or five figures here!
and in fact i wear my new-ish sub as my daily watch and save my DJ for special occasions because it's older and has an acrylic crystal. though it keeps time spectacularly well for a 42-year-old watch, i must say!

Looking through older posts and was wondering if the OP ever found a 16220? I just picked one up with a jubilee. Gray Buckley dial. Pics to follow.

Don't overlook the 6424 on a strap, makes a great daily/office wear kind of watch. Very flat case and no lug holes! In nice shape, frequently under $1200. 'Course, you gotta wind it...
