[QUOTE=padi56;4493276]The bad news, and point of interest to Ceramic owners, is that the bezel pearl cannot be replaced on any ceramic insert. This is what I was told on contact to Rolex London who spoke with Rolex directly a few days ago on my behalf, in the UK new black ceramic bezel insert is £360 plus VAT.

QUOTE]

Yep....lost the pearl from my DSSD in similar circumstances to the OP, didn't notice I'd knocked it.

RSC said there was impact damage so not covered by warranty, whole insert needed replacing. Not great, now prefer old style with inserts replaced at a fraction of the cost....

Sorry to hear that. Here's a pic of mine from yesterday about an hour after the New York RSC replaced the insert in mine because I had a chipped pearl. Total cost - $52.26.

We had a customer who subjects his watches to massive abuse as a construction boss of some kind. His pearl got lost, and he didn't want to pay for a new insert. We mixed some aftermarket luminous paint with two-part epoxy, and a nice little dot of it filled up the cup completely. It cured in 5 minutes and looked almost exactly like new.

I guess my paranoia is starting to show. When I hear things like this, I'm reminded of the comedy routine regarding the $400 bluejeans that one might expect to be the best trousers ever made but which are, in fact, quite ordinary albeit with a designer name. I'm not an Apple fanatic, but when one of their products malfunctions on me, they have always been rather generous with me as regards warranty. I'm almost feeling that this is a stress test for Rolex customers: if enough pearls are displaced and enough complain about excessive replacement cost on the new models, perhaps either the design will be modified or a better replacement policy come to pass.

I have decided to go down this route as well.

Here is what I found to be the cheap and easy fix.....

http://www.noctilumina.com/

Maybe I will send it out for a proper replacement when i need the five year RSC service.

That post is for the aluminum insert that can be bought from Rolex for around $55 and not a ceramic insert which is totally different.

That's more like it. Go to the NY RSC and let them replace it for $52.26 but be careful, you could leave with something much more expensive

Unfortunately for the OP, he has a ceramic bezel. It would be very hard to justify replacing that for a tiny little jewel. But I know me and it would drive me crazy. I didn't realize how much the tiny chip in the pearl bothered me until I had the insert replaced. Now my whole attitude towards the watch has changed and I think it looks amazing now. Before, I had that nagging feeling things were off. I think it would drive me crazy knowing my pearl was missing and would cost big bucks to fix. I'm really feeling the love for old school now.

And speaking of leaving with something more expensive, the RSC had the Tudor catalogues laying out. There are some really nice watches being offered by Tudor besides just the Black Bay, Pelagos and THCs. After I left the RSC I went around the corner to the Rolex store to check out the Tudor line but they don't carry the Tudors at Rolex on 5th avenue. They pointed me towards Wempe a couple blocks away but I had to start making my way back to JFK so didn't go take a look.

How exactly will they replace a $1,200 item for $52.26?

...several years ago, I had an Omega Seamaster that somehow lost its bezel pearl. I took the watch to an Omega retailer and had just the pearl replaced into the original bezel for less than forty dollars. Perhaps Omega (Swatch?) would sell a bezel pearl that one could just glue back into the ceramic bezel cup, assuming the cup itself is still present.

It's about $350 for a ceramic bezel insert only. If you need the bezel also, then you are looking at $1200.

That's more like it. Still doesn't beat $52.26 though.

I can't stand the new ceramic inserts, way to much glare and way to expensive to replace. I love the days of going into my local AD and walking out with new pepsi, coke, black sub inserts for $50. It did not take me long to sell my Sub C, much happier without it.

Update:

RSC - Dallas just called and informed me that the bezel pearl will be replaced under warranty.

Apparently they can replace the inset dot.

Furthermore, they will do a complimentary movement exam and service.

This is the second excellent experience I have had with RSC- Dallas.

Now, I just have to wait 2-3 weeks.
