Nuts over Daytona. Have I gone insane for being…?
I am a chronograph guy, and I know Rolex has one of the most reliable chronometer movement in the world.
Back in Nov 2010, I had acquired my first brand new black dial SS Daytona from a local AD. I loved it very much, I almost slept with it every night. It was like a dream come true. And then the unthinkable happened. I traded it (at a loss) for something else ten months after. I regretted terribly ever since. In Feb 2012, I bought a brand new white dial SS Daytona from a different AD to fill the void. I told myself I will never part ways with it for whatever the reason in the world. Six months later, I sold it, at a loss of course. I told myself then that I will never buy another Daytona, black or white. Don't get me wrong, I still love it lots and I am still a chronograph guy. It is just unfortunate that it could not hold my attention for a prolong period. Perhaps it may be the busy dial, or the small dial, or because there is no date. It is something I can never comprehend. A month ago, when I visited by AD. He brought out something from the the safe and presented to me a 116518. It instantly reignited my passion all over again. It was like my long lost lover (which is good). That black dial red chrono hand on a gold case in black leather instantly melted my weaken heart. I bought it together with the 116515LN without a blink. My peers call me crazy and insane. Perhaps they are correct. Perhaps I am really one crazy Daytona fella. Or am I the only one? Here are a few photos of my new pride and joy. Hope you guys like it.

Obviously, money is NOT the issue here. Why do you think most of the members on this forum actually COLLECT their watches? They initially fall in love with a newly purchased watch and after a certain period of time, the need for something new or different arises. At this point the collector KEEPS and ADDS to his collection. Variety is the spice of life, it is nice to wear your watches in rotation. No need to sell unless you need to free up cash, which in your case does not seem to apply... my $ 0.02

Thanks again for the pics Nick, and wow... if you told me a couple of years ago that I would want a watch with a brown dial I would laugh at you, but that chocolate Daytona is amazing!

Thank you guys for your comments and support.
Yes, I did sold off those to finance my other purchase. Hope I have learnt my lesson and will hold on to these two beauties for good.

Its what you like that's all is important and sorry for your loss when you had to sell both watches.Myself not a huge fan of the modern Daytona myself prefer my 6263 old school, now a modern day Daytona like the 6263 then I could be interested.

Congrats, those two look amazing.
When my family and friends tell me I'm insane and crazy over my watches, I like to think of it as a fine madness. |

Had always thought the Daytona is not for me, then someone posts pictures of an incredibly beautiful case/dial/strap combo that makes me rethink how the Universe should be ordered. You, nick, have just given me pause. That gold case, black dial and leather strap piece is fabulous. With my basic Sub and DJ, that Daytona is just what I need.

Great Daytona, congrats. Most of us have done similar buys and trades. Enjoy your life and do what makes you happy with your watch hobby. It is not about the collection but the joy of rotating watches for many of us.
