Yes. They've become exceedingly rare lately, even more so than genuine T39s I feel like.
A good deal of repop one's were being sold out of Italy recently. I picked up two vintage originals a couple of years back when the going was good, and had the chance to compare mine (thankfully I brought them along) to compare next to one that was being offered to me about a year ago and the one offered was clearly a replica. Chemically clear and white, imperfections in the consistency of the plastic, and a slightly larger diameter (by <1mm, in comparison). It's a tricky little game finding a good one; for a clear piece of plastic that costs next to nothing to manufacture at even it's best quality, the temptation is too great not to pass off as genuine. With these type of Rolex parts I'd say more than ever, "buy the seller" or someone with a reputation to lose. |
