Continue waiting for 15202 or look for 15450 blue dial?

Hi all,

Did anyone have recent luck with purchasing 15202 through an AD in the US? You can PM me if you want. I have been number 1 on my AD's waitlist since Jan 2017 but haven't received that watch as yet. My AD mentioned last year that he will continue to get at least 1 15202 in a year from the leftover allocation of the boutiques. He used to receive more 15202s before it became boutique exclusive. However, now he is not sure when and if he will get a 15202 this year.

What should I do? Should I continue waiting for the 15202 or start looking for a 15450 blue dial? As background, I had a 15450 silver dial which I sold last year in order to upgrade to 15202. The 15450 wore slightly small on my 6.4~ flat wrist, more like a 38-39 mm size dress watch than a sports watch. I have tried the gold 15202 few times and it wears fine. In an ideal scenario, 15202 will be my first choice but now I am not sure if I can get it from my AD.

I understand that 15450 blue dial is also boutique exclusive but it will have a shorter waiting time than the 15202. Also, I have heard stories that 15202 lists are hardly run in a transparent manner by the boutiques so going to a boutique won't help either.

Or look for a 15300 blue which is also 39mm but also quite hard to find. And you would be looking at only used obviously, not sure if that is a deal breaker for you.

Either wait it out, go grey market pay out the nose or get a 15450 blue. I’m surprised that the 15450 wore small on your ~6.4” flat wrist. My wrist is ~6.5”, more rounded than flat and the 15450 fits me spot on.

Correct, the 15450 blue is a boutique exclusive, shorter wait time than the 15202, but still could be a long wait time. I read on another forum 6 months to 1.5 years.

As I said, the 15450 wears like a dress watch on my wrist, at least that's how I feel. The 15202, on the other hand, is just about right. 1 mm larger and it will not fit my wrist. I also prefer the dull blue of the 15202 dial to the vibrant blue of the 15450/15400 dial.

I guess I will be happy to own either one but feel frustrated that after a year wait, I may have to start afresh with a boutique for a 15202.

Following are the comparison photos I took on my recent visit to the Las Vegas boutique.

15202 in gold (I am only interested in the steel version)

15450 (the same watch that I used to own)

I understand. The 15450 looks great on your wrist. It’s wears like a 39-40mm Rolex sports model on my wrist. Pretty close to a Daytona or Explorer I.

I think you should wait and join other lists as the 202 is the one you really want, it's a patience game these days.

I'm recieving my jumbo 15202st tomorrow, came in yesterday. I did buy a jumbo 15202OR from the same boutique about 6 months ago, obviously thats why I got the steel jumbo relatively fast. Both the 15202 and 15450 are beautiful and look great in your pics. Personally I think the 15202 is perfectly proportioned (hence the PM and steel).

Congratulations in advance; several detailed pictures of both requested, along with a description of how the steel and rose compare for use, wear!

At this point slim chance of AD delivery on the steel jumbo. I’m thankful my AD was honest with me last fall and I found one new here. I thought I overpaid then sheesh.

Even boutiques you’ll be waiting a very long time without prior purchases. I’d probably consider grey market or the RO dual time which is a great value and 39mm size available new even though it’s been discontinued.

It's crazy how quickly the market has changed on the 15202. I walked into the boutique in HK in March 2017, negotiated a token discount with a whole bunch of gifts and walked away as I thought it was overpaying. Then in July 2017, they remembered my visit and pulled out a brand new one from the back. I bought it shortly after at full MSRP with only a token gift. Now I'm told even they've closed their waitlists on this reference.

I personally would wait it out for this one - it's worth the wait and I get the sense that the 15450 will be a compromise and second fiddle for you, and you'll still yearn for the 15202 afterwards.

If it's the 15202 that you truly want, then definitely wait it out. You really should get exactly the watch that you want. (And I'm not slagging the 450 blue, I happen to own one and I love it.) Never settle, you'll always regret it.

However, it does sound like you'd have better luck getting in line at a boutique. Sounds like your AD can't provide what you want.

Buy it grey now.
Stay on the lists, and if they ever come through sell it for profit to ease the grey price.

Wait it out. I waited six months for mine from a boutique and took delivery last month. Well worth the wait. Dial never gets old

I don’t think it is a 100% Boutique exclusive on the blue dial 15450. There was one at my AD about a few months after it came out. It sold immediately, but they do get it and was expecting at least one more piece at that time. Perhaps the policy changed?

But then again, certain ADs have gotten Boutique exclusive items before like the SS 15400 with the blue dial.

To the OP, I think you should call around your ADs and make an inquiry. As for waiting on the 15202, I would not settle and definitely hold out for the Jumbo.

Thanks for your insight. Perhaps the policy has changed. I don’t know. Can anyone confirm?

This is sound advice

Plus you've absorbed any price hikes during the interim

And you'll happy sooner!

I do feel for you. Been here alot

My understanding is that now both 15202 and 15450 blue dial are boutique exclusives. But ADs do get them from time to time from leftover Boutique allocation. That’s why I have been on my AD’s waitlist for 15202 for more than a year now.

Do you buy a lot from your AD? Picking up a ROO may help grease the wheels.

Picked up a GO Panomaticlunar and AP 15450 from the same AD. This will be my 3rd watch.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will continue to think whether I should go for the 15450 blue dial. It is available with a few month's wait at a boutique. Maybe, my AD can get me the 15450 quicker but at least I have the boutique option.

The boutique I spoke with have stopped taking names for 15202. They were taking names in January but not now. So, for the 15202, my best option is to stick with my AD it seems.

I will think over it. I may opt for the 15450 or I may move the funds to a FP Journe Bleu or Patek 5167 purchase. I have a 5711 coming soon and my Patek AD has given me Jan 2019 as possible 5167 delivery month. The FP Journe Blue will most likely be sometime late next year.
