Your Opinion Please
Gents,
I’m in the process of getting rid of my TT Submariner and getting a Royal Oak Offshore. I have found a nice titanium with a grey dial but it is a watch only. No box and papers. I seem to move in and out of watches maybe every year or so. Will it be an impossible sale if it is not complete set? I know with Rolex it is not terrible due to popularity, but how about with AP? Would love someone’s advice and expertise. Thank you! |

I would pass and wait for a complete one, would it be "terrible"??? maybe not... some people don't consider loosing $200K on a Rolls Royce terrible... if you're cheap like me pass and get a complet one.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch the piece - less comfort with how the watch came to market and the knowledge that selling it would be challenging

I would NOT buy an AP without a box and, more importantly, papers.

I bought an AP ROO off Watchfinder without papers, but with box. My plan has always been to send it for a service before I sell it to mitigate any issues without having papers.

For me the 20% was the difference between being to afford it and not, and it’s one of my grails so the risk was worth it, especially as it’s come from watchfinder.
Not sure I’d risk it from many other sellers though... |

Yep they must check authenticity etc when they buy it and you always have recourse to them.

20% is significant and if you are sure of the seller then not a bad idea.

If you find someone else like you to buy it next, then no worries. Not meaning that in a rude way but I'm sure there are many others that will be happy with it.
Could you get it authenticated at AP? Or have seller get that done? |

As in real estate. Buy with the intention to sell one day. Watch with no papers and box will be a very tough sell. Pass

The 20% off is a red flag for buying the watch without box and papers. Pass, find another that is complete.

Just for the record - boxes and papers do not ‘guarantee’ authenticity of a pre-owned luxury timepiece.
When buying a pre-owned luxury timepiece the three most important factors I look at - are cost, condition and provenance. If all of that checks out....and you’re comfortable with...there you go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To preserve as much future resale value as possible (if that’s a key goal) then paying a bit more for a complete set from a trusted seller should also return a greater resale value.
It’s also reducing the risk of a stolen watch by some margin. Not a guarantee, that depends upon the chain of custody twixt new buyer and current seller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
