Allure of the Pam 372 gone?

Hi everyone,

I am a Pam 372 owner and personally think that it is the nicest off all modern Panerai watches. But I have noticed that you really don't see or hear much about it like you did in the past.

Has the allure of the Pam 372 passed us by?

I personally love that watch. The case is extraordinarily comfortable for a 47mm watch. It is elegant in its simplicity but I think it is easy to get bored with the dial. Directionally, I like the PAM 673 better even though the dial / hands only slightly differ.

Sounds silly but I think I would really like it with a small seconds @ 9.

I like the 372 and own the 422 which, as I am sure you know, is similar to the 372. Several of my friends who are Paneresti's have this watch and would not think of getting rid of it. I think Panerai works against it's self with so many different models and variations. Wear it in good health.

Supply has met demand is all. It is one of the most popular watches.

It’s biggest challenge is that many realized they can’t pull off a 47mm watch. I wish I could but I can’t.

I agree. If the 372 was 44mm, It would sell ridiculously more. Such a gorgeous watch.

Many people can’t pull 47mm that’s way the prices are down.

I have a 7" wrist, I bought the 422 and after one year, sold it and got a 233 recently, just love the 233 so much more on my wrist. My wife told me the 422 look fine on my wrist, but I keep looking at it and it was just too big on the reflection of the mirror.

You said it yourself, it's a really great modern Panerai. Who cares about internet chatter? You can't wear that on your wrist. ;-)

The 372 was always an enthusiasts' piece with the plexi and size. And they are very happy with it. Those who bought it due to hype or to make a buck are less happy.

The 372 is one of the most "pure" Panerai pieces out there. I wish they had a more comprehensive line of base models that have plexi (I know the newer 372s don't), sandwich dials, and gold hands.

The one thing I notice about Panerai is that they go through trends where they really push a particular model or case. Right now they are pushing the 1950 Submersible models, prior to that it was the new Duos, before that there were a lot of new Radiomir 1940s being released. It comes in cycles. I don't think before long we will see a re-emphasis on the base 1950 models once again.

That’s exactly why I don’t have a 372. I love it, but I can’t wear it...and that makes me a little sad.

Popularity comes and goes with the brand I guess.

6 years ago it was hot and so was Panerai but now the brand's heat has died off a lot. Part of the main reason I think is they have released too many models and diluted the market for Panerai.

I used to have the 372 and I loved it but when I had the 673 I let go of the 372 because the 673 is even more pure, more unique and more collectible.

It's one of the best contemporary PAMs out there for sure with so much of the DNA. I think it had a lot of desire when everyone thought it was going to be limited and not that easily available. Everyone speculated on it and as others have mentioned the supply has caught up and the 47mm does rule out a ton of people.

For anyone that's really into, or interested in the history of Panerai, the 372 was always the closest thing on the market to the vintage 6152 - one of the first watches to feature the now iconic crown guard mechanism.

When I was looking to get my first Pan, the 372 was the natural choice for me as I had fallen in love with a picture of a 6152 spotted whilst 'Googleing' Panerai images.

Just as I was getting ready to commit to one, Panerai released the 673 - an even closer homage to the vintage 6152 I had previously fallen in love with as it had the period correct 'Marina Militare' text on the dial.

Needles to say the 673 now sits proudly in my watch box, but I still hold a torch for the 372 as it was & still is an extremely beautiful time piece and was very nearly 'the one' I purchased.

I don't think the 'allure' of the 372 is gone, I just think as with Panerai generally, you either know about it or you don't.

As others have said, the 47mm size is quite restrictive for most, so you really have to be 'into' the brand to commit to such a watch.

The 372 is my joint favourite PAM that I don’t own (along with the 533). It’s an awesome piece.

My wrists are only 7.25” and it looks a tad big on me. Then again, I’m 5’ 13” so can get away with.

I think when trying on a 372, a lot of people forget that it’s a Panerai. It’s supposed to be big and in yer face.

Love that one too but the pugs are chunkier on that beast but I do appreciate the small seconds hand.

Same here. I have had a 372 twice and a 422 once. Loved both but 47mm was just too much. Loved the case and dial. Looked great with black, gold or brown straps. Found a 233 at a great price and really like it.

Nice! Sandwich dial is the best! Like the hobnail but sandwich is a favorite.

Big fan of the sandwich dial myself on my 441. Although I tried a 1499 on yesterday and the white dial is quite handsome too.

I'm pretty sure the whole Panerai line has lost its allure..........too many watches, that to the non-WIS look the same........too many LE and SE releases........other than vintage and the Bronzos, I don't think anyone cares about this brand anymore. Its a shame.......such great, masculine watches!!!

Plenty of people care about the brand still. Just not the flippers looking for a quick buck.
