Vintage Rolex Sourcing
Hi all,
I'm looking to potentially acquire a vintage Submariner and have very little knowledge on the subject. I have more modern Rolex, 16610 and SD4K. Are there any brokers or dealers that will track down a watch for you, to ensure authenticity, quality etc? I'm looking for a birth year Submariner (1975) and am out of my depth to be honest :) Any advice welcome. Many thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Contact Jacek on here as well as DavidSW. They are probably your best bet for a 75 but you will need to be very specific with then of what you want.

I'm probably looking at a 1680 or 5513 in that year from the looks of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you come across a 1982 1665 or 16660 (lucky to have both options that year, and my 16600 needs company), let me know ;)

You could try contacting Mike Wood at the Old Watch Shop. He is an extremely well known collector with a superb collection of Submariners (amongst many others).

Haywood seems to be a knowledgeable seller as well. Might be worth a visit to his place.

Put a WTB ad in the sale corner. I'm sure one of our many members will have what you're looking for.

That will cost you a lot less than a vintage Rolex.

You could also try Kirill at lunaroyster. Very good seller. FYI, DavidSW rarely deals in vintage.

Many thanks, will PM.
I guess that brings me to my next point if it's ok to ask, what sort of budget is required for a nice example 1975 year Submariner either date or no date? I want something I can wear daily really, not a safe queen :) I'm in the UK so that may affect the price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not up to date with U.K. prices, but in the U.S. you could find a nice mid-'70s 1680 (white) for the $9K-$10K range, give or take depending on condition, and a little more for a 5513 Sub. Again, because of a wide range of factors, mainly with condition and originality, you'll see a considerable swing in the prices.
Are you restricted to buying in the U.K.? I'm sure the reputable sellers in the U.S. ship all over the world. |

Many thanks for your reply. I guess I'm only restricted by import duties which would add about 30% with the VAT I think?
That's the main issue, obviously I would never condone under declaring the value :) I see you have a lot of great sellers, it's a bit annoying. Anyone looking in who has a lead let me know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You could look at the vintage watch company's website, they have many vintage Rolex advertised by year of manufacture. I have not dealt with them, just looked at their site, they are based in London, so you might have a nice day out watch hunting. I have just checked, they have submariner's for sale some 73's and 77's, but no 75's. I expect their stock changes quite quickly, check them out and give them a ring. Good luck in your search. Be careful, there are some rogues out there trying their hardest to part you from your hard earned. Buy the seller not the watch.

Just had a look now, loads of stock but the prices seem inflated.

I've dealt with Jacek a couple of times and never experienced any import/VAT issues. Most trusted sellers are used to serving clients all over the world and are well versed in import-export solutions.

I wouldn't say they were inflated. You're paying a premium for his reputation for honesty and for high quality, authentic stock. Price reflects risk. You can probably find cheaper examples elsewhere if you have more appetite for risk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Seems like a bit of a minefield, not as straight forward as I anticipated.
